I have that combo attack, I like it, it takes a little getting used to but it does just fine. I autocross the car all the time, never a problem, been to the strip 4-5 times launching at 6/7k rpms no problem. Had the combo in my last car too.

It expands in the direction that it can? Aluminum is a malleable metal, why would it shatter so easily?
It's malleable, yes, but not enough to bend rather than shatter. If it were that soft, it probably wouldn't be useable as a flywheel in the first place.

maybe i shouldn't of put that, or maybe i should've put more of an emphasis on the either way, i've NEVER heard of it actually happening. just people stating theories. this flywheel/clutch combo isn't bad. i haven't been through enough clutches/flywheels to know whats good though, and on top of that, i haven't started autoxing my car yet.

Have not heard anything from Comptech for a while, but they used to carry a nice flywheel as well. (did someone already say comptech?)

Here's what Fidanza had to say about shattering, so should clear things up.

Our aluminum flywheels have been SFI approved. This means they passed a spin test to 14,000rpm at which the ring gear came loose. At 18,000 the aluminum distorted slightly but no shattering. We have our aluminum flywheels in full on race cars like Titans Motorsports record holder. We also supply offshore boat racing flywheels for their 1400 hp blown alcohol engines. Working in the tech dept. for 6 years I have have yet to have one shatter. I think some of the gossip about shattering comes from along time ago when other companies cast their flywheels out of a cheap grade of aluminum. Aluminum or Iron casting will let go around 7500rpm .

Just got an email from them today on their flywheel. They are still about 3-4 weeks away from being able to re-release their flywheel for sale.

But at least they say they are coming back in business!

I'm going with the setup that mostly everyone is using. The ACT HD clutch and pressure plate, and Fidanza flywheel. So, I hope to have everything installed by this weekend and will let everyone know how it feels.
