Default Haltech E8?

Well I had a local tuner (Staticx motorsports) totally lie to me about installing my AEM EMS. He wanted to sell it to me, i found it cheaper. 1-2 weeks later he states he wont install or tune my AEM EMS as he has a partnership with HAltch now. I saved the cash and bought the AEM because this tuner was local and ssaid they were capable and willing.

So here is my requests.....

Please shed some light on the Haltech unit

Thanks.

You can always find it cheaper somewhere else, but the profit on the EMS helps pay the bills so you have a local tuner. You want to be on excellent terms with your tuner and you want him to paid well. Trust me! You will be back many times if you want a good tune and will probably either call or email him many times trying to figure out small problems. Not to mention if you change parts. More than anything, you need your tuner to take his time. I have been to the tuner 4 times and have spent well over $1,000 and only just now is the tune just about perfect.

Anyway, to the point of your post, Haltech is a very nice tuning system, and probably better then the AEM in that they have better support and a longer history. AEM is somewhat new to the game. There is a pretty large AEM S2000 community so that is a help.

I WAS a repeat customer. I had full intentions on paying FULL price because i didnt buy it from them for their service. You cant tell me that those guys are making more profits on selling the AEM vs. their dyno tuning and a couple hours of labor? Come on now. With sooooo many dealers out there and the internet too, profits have been slashed by companies wanting the sale. i find it hard to believe that the 20-40% profit from the AEM unit makes them more money than their custom tuning and install services.

Do the math. its prolly close but i say labor and dyno tuning would come out on top in regards to profitability. you ALWAYS make up in your value added services when the market is so tight in sales.

so they would rather have the 150-250 bucks of the product vs. the 500.00-1000.00 on the install & tune???

Not going to defend the Company because I know too little about the particular situation (and why would I defend them anyway?).

You seem to know the true costs of getting a good tune and that is good. I didn't know those costs up front, although it doesn't impact me one way or another so maybe I just didn't care to do the research. It's expensive, time-consuming and their are no shortcuts.

And on top of all the money I spent, I have spent probably 50+ hours of my own time street tuning and researching parameters on the EMS.

Are you for hire?

no this isnt my first vehicle to "tinker" with. i am familiar with the cost of a good tune and a good tuner.

actually i was up front on the costs with him. i told him whatever we needed to do. i just did not care for their harsh sales tactics, and as you can see they obviously didnt care about my decision.

Haltech makes baller standalones, but AEM should get the job done. It all depends on your bank account and needs.

Prolly going to go that route now. i wanted to keep my stock ECU to begin with.

I talked to the guy at Static x and i believe we both have a much better understanding. It was the initial miscommunication on their part that sucked.

I was told it could and would be done, so i bought the AEM.

Sorry for the rant.........i just thought i was done wrong initially. It's ok i guess, will just have to return the AEM and move forward with a loss.
