So i have this brand new monster do -luck STB (i dont care if they're useless or not, lets get that out of the way) and now i'm having some trouble latching my hood down. i can get it down and closed but you can definitely see that it affects the lines on the car. i do not want to remove that thick carpet heat/fire shield on the hood, but i did find some insulation underneath that bought me some room. i've also adjusted my latch all the way up, but now the lines look awful!
are there any tricks that you guys have to buy just a bit more space? i am thinking about beating some of those tubular spots in the hood in with a hammer, but i'm not a fan of beating things.... any other ideas?
I'd just pull the sound insulation out from under the hood. That's what I did when we put the CTSC on the car; Let's the SC sound out. Unless you're planning an underhood fire or don't like the extra noise you don't need the under hood pading.
I'd do that before weakening the hood by smashing or cutting away part of its bracing.
After removing the insulation under the hood, my crossbracing was still just touching my strutbar (S2X). So, I busted out the diegrinder and cut notches into the underhood bracing. I used RC car fuel lines that I slit to use as trim around the holes.
i was totally unaware of any effects of pulling the whole insulator thing off so i didn't want to chance it. if i pull that guy off and it fits i will run it just like that - i'm not planning on having my little stock motor shoot flames everywhere and noise was never a problem to begin with
i am using a do-luck strut bar that was originally made as a prototype. it is an absolutely phenomonal bar but it is rather large. i had to actually jack up the car and step on a rotor to drop the studs and make this thing even fit - so you could only imagine my happiness to see my hood not closing on top of it, especially when i wanted to drive it asap and check it out
anyway, i have it fitting ALRIGHT for right now but the reassurance that removing the insulation entirely is safe makes me feel much better. i will give it a shot tomorrow, and maybe post up some pics if anyone is interested.

I like being able to hear the engine a little more.
