J's 60rs
Hey guys, I just put on my J's Racing 60rs single exhaust this weekend, and there is a clearance problem with the OEM rear chassis brace. The guy I got it from said that he just used spacers on the 14mm bolts on that brace, but I can't find any at any stores around me, neither Home Depot or Lowe's even carry 14mm metric ANYTHING and the auto parts stores looked at me like I was speaking Martian.
So my question is, what did you guys do for clearance? The exhaust goes on fine, but looks like it would rattle against the brace, so I completely took off the brace. It is not that sturdy (the OEM brace), but I can definately tell the difference when it's not there -- the rear is much easier to swing out, it doesn't have the same grip. So I'm thinking about purchasing an aftermarket brace (i.e. Spoon) but I'm wondering if I'll have the same problems ... can anybody chime in here? Thanks!

well, first, if you are going to space it some, try an ace hardware. The generally have a ton of metric bolts and other hardware. also, could a stiffer or shorter rubber hanger help your situation?
No a stiffer hanger wouldn't really help, the stock hanger is actually very stiff and the exhaust does not swing at all. The problem is that the resonator literally sits right on the OEM rear lower brace. As soon as you turn the car on it starts rattling (in an excessively loud manner), so I had to take the brace out. There is no room to hang the exhaust higher, so I'm sure it has been an issue for anyone installing a 60rs exhaust (this is the pre-FX series, BTW). Thanks for the idea though J's Racing, I will find an ACE hardware and see if they have the neccessary spacers and longer bolts.
I have same exhaust with Same issue...
The hanger on the resonator actually broke!!!! I had to find a specialist all over town that had experience with welding titanium. I made sure when he rewelded the hanger, he tightened it up so it clears the brace you are talking about.
I also had an issue with the last muffler hanger taping the frame. I wrapped several thick rubber bands around the where the hanger makes contact with the frame to deaden out the sound.
I was very disappointed with the fitment issues, but it is a quiet, lightweight exhaust otherwise.

Yes I definately agree with jurgento, I was very disappointed with the fitment of the exhaust as well. I don't have the problem of the hanger tapping the frame (that I know of yet at least), but the fitment overall is poor. The exhaust looks and sounds great, and gives a performance boost, but you would think that for $1400+ they could make an exhaust that doesn't tap against everything on the undercarriage!
I would just use the spacers if they dont make them in metric just get some standard and drill them out to make them work.
Regarding the tie bar: If you are going to get a rear lower tie bar I would recommend going with another brand other than spoon. I have bent and have seen many other folks bend their spoon lower tie bars.
Comptech's lower tie bar seems to be stronger and does not use end links to attach it to the car
ASM's is a D shaped design and not too expensive either under $200.00 I think, but does not look as strong as Comptech's bar.
