Default J's TB vs. Spoon TB

Hey guys...well if you read the 230 n/a whp thread then you'll know that I'm looking to stay N/A. I know that down the line I will be getting a larger throttle body as it will help, especially with many other supportive mods. Basically, I'm looking at both the J's and the Spoon TB's. I notice that the J's can be had in both 64 and 66mm I would be getting the 66. The Spoon on the other hand say's 70mm but I believe that is the outer diameter and their inner is still 66mm.

Does anybody have opinions on which they believe is better, because the J's can be had for $330 where as the spoon is more like $660...

Also, there is the option of the proflow TB which is a 70mm inner diameter, however, I've read on the boards that some people are having problems with those. Would I expect to have problems with the proflow since I have an EMS? Or should I be ok since I have that?

Thanks guys, I'm not expecting to gain much from a TB, but overall in the end, combined with a J's 70rr, J's header, AEM V1, EMS, cooling mods, and intake insulating mods, I think I should get somewhere between 3-5hp from this...maybe. Then after headwork, and intake mani work it should just aid in getting the best gains from that. Thanks again, and helpful opinions are apprieciated

What about the ProFlow 66mm inner and the Spoon "Venturi"?

Why do proflow 66 when you could do 70? and the spoon venturi...ehh again, why is it that the Spoon is rediculously expensive.

edit* and upgrade intake? From the AEM? The AEMs make some of the most power, the downfall is the risk of hydrolock.

I know that J's Racing enlarges the diameter of the TB before and after the throttle and it also replaces it with a wider diameter, instead of making a cone shaped wider TB just like Spoon does!

The above comment was hard to compose... I hope you understand what am trying to describe.

so your saying that the Spoon only increases diameter before the throtle plate and behind the plate it is stock, where as the J's replaces the throttle plate and makes it 66mm all the way through? I figure I'm either going to go with the J's or the Proflow, but leaning towards J's cause I don't want problems down the line.

Thats exactly what I was trying to say!

Glad I was understood! It was a hard post to implement!

I dont have experience with any, but I am looking at Proflow.
How big is the J's? I don't know of any problems with their 66mm. I can understand problems with idling maybe with the 70mm.

I wasn't 100% serious about the intake. I used to have the V1 until I replaced it. I went with the ARC which had better throttle response but more heat soak, I tried K&N which was good (similar to AEM V1), and now I have the HKS which I like the most by far.... To each their own!

cool...looks like the two top competitors are the J's 66mm and the Proflow 70mm then. Any opinions on these two?

The reason the Spoon is so expensive is because it's a brand new TB, all factory sensors included. You gotta compare apples to apples.

If you check out Spoon's site, they have an exchange program like proflow. $282 at the current exchange rate.

Maybe Ben or another sponsor can jump in and let us know if they can work that out.

Andrew, excellent point-
I figured part of the price difference was due to the core exchange, but wasn't sure. This confirmation is good news!!!

Also, I would consider the ProFlow 66mm as well. ESPECIALLY if you are staying NA. If you don't have FI, 70mm might make your low-end TQ turn to zilch. Just a thought, but again I have no experience!
