Default Mugen Hardtop Installation Instructions

hey guys. i just picked up my Mugen top today and dropped it off immediately for painting. i didn't even get a chance to check out the instructions... are they sufficient? i mean, do they really show in good enough detail how to install it? if anyone with more experience has any advice or pointers that the directions don't cover i would appreciate, as i am sure many others would as well since all the group buys for these things are starting to get delivered over the last few weeks. thanks a lot.

Is your japanese good? If not you can get by by just checking out the pics. My favorite part was the rope trick to install the back window You will need a friend to help.

I'd recommend doing a search also..

actually my body shop is installing the rear window as well they said "if this window installs the way i think it does its just roped in"??? so is that what you are talking about? i am not familiar with that. and no i don't speak any japanese at all..but as long as the pictures are sufficient than i think i will be fine. i searched and couldnt come up with anything other than a PDF for the OEM hard top install which covers most of it except for what those aluminum L shaped brackets are for...

The instructions suck.

You need to rope the rear window in. Make sure the two ends of the rope are at the bottom of the window, then place the window on the hardtop, apply pressure to where the rope is being pulled from inside the top (someone pulls the string for the inside, another person presses on the window from the outside). Go very, very slowly. It will take you a few times to get the hang of it.

All the weather stripings are faily streight forward. Those two extra plastic caps need to be drilled to the inside of the hardtop near the a-pilar.

Once you mount the top to the car, hand tighten the rear catchers. Align it, tighten more. It fits better than OEM.

The L-Shaped brackets are for the window moldings. Look at the pic's in the instructions....

I had an OEM Ht on my 01 and had no problems. Fit great and was easier to live with on the street with the rear defroster. I love the Mugen now for the track
