Default What should I do?

I posted this in S2000 talk as well, but figured I might get better advise here.

My plans have gone straight to hell! I have a deal worked out on a long beach blue NSX, and my car was to be sold. I took it into the dealer last week for an oil change/new battery and to check on a faint tap that started a couple of days before. I figured that it was a belt that needed adjusting or a timing issue, and I wanted it to be 100% for the new owner. It turns out that my bearings are shot. My car is a 2001 with 68k and I have the oil changed regularly. The Honda claims guy came out and said that tey weren't covering the claim because the cause is "lack of lube", and that the oil was very low when it was brought in. I've been fighting this for about a week and a half now. They've taken everything apart (which I now have to pay for) and they're telling me that I'm screwed so needless to say,I'm extremely frustrated. They want to charge me $6000 to replace the short block. I'm considering having the car taken on a rollback to first state motorsports for some work now that the engines out. I figure, why pay all that money to make it stock again. So I'm considering keeping it. I guess my question is what would you do? Should I just spend the money on the S and have the motor built? If so, what should I have done? We discussed replacing the shortblock witha brand new one and just adding a comptech SC, but I don't think I'll be happy with that. What can I do now that the motor is out and apart that would really make a difference in performance? Perhaps I'll go FI as well, but I'd rather not do it to an otherwise stock car. What about displacement? Should I have the internals upgraded? What would you do?

So you have to spend 6k on the block plus more money to mod the car??
Honestly, I think you should consider this as a sunk cost and move on. Don't tie down even more money because you feel like you invested so much money on it already. Otherwise you'll just end up investing a ton of money on a second choice. What are your other options? Is the NSX completely out of reach now?

If there's any way possible, I would get the NSX.

And you don't need a new shortblock, just new bearings (which seems very premature on a car with 68k miles unless you beat the piss out of it with no oil in it) so I would keep your short block, take it to a machine shop and have them do the job for substantially cheaper. There is no way you should pay $6k to put new bearings in the car. I wouldn't even tow the car, just leave it in the lot and tell them you're discussing your options or waiting for your paycheck or something, then ship the engine to a shop and have them do it. Or else just say screw it and drop in a J's Racing 2.0L long block for $6k -- it's the same freakin price!

$6,000?! You can get a whole motor for $3-4,000. If I were you, I would forget the S and let somebody else replace the motor. Get the NSX.

NSX is bada$$ but you can make the S handle just as good if not better and just as fast. I know that doesnt help what you're asking. If my motor ever blows I will go with a J's engine. $6k for a fully built engine is not bad IMO. Good Luck, sorry for the bad luck!
