2011 MD/NOVA Auto-X Thread
Mike,
At Cumberland the initial grip of the A6s was about the same or slightly better than Dunlops to me. After they warmed they were much grippier. My question to you is how the first run on A6s at Fedex Field feels. I don't want to underdrive the first run, but many r comp drivers seem to spin the first run. What is your strategy until the tires warm up at Fedex?
And for that matter, how do they handle on a wet Fedex surface relative to street tires?
Thanks

I go at it as hard as ever on the first run. My car is so heavy it heats the tires up to operating temp by 1/2 way through the first run. It does kind of suck when the first portion of the course is on the sealed stuff. That is when the spins are most prominent. If you don't go hard on the first run (particularly with no co-driver)....you will still be fighting coolish tires on the second run. I generally have to spray after the second run if it is 85+ out. I don't like to start if my temps are higher than the min operating temp (120-125)....it tends to get very slick by the end of the run (too much heat in the tire).
Thanks. Me and AJ sprayed after the 4th run at Cumberland when tires reached 140 degrees. That's when they started getting greasy and AJ spun.
We didn't need to spray again and we did 6 runs each and alternating non stop.
Thanks for the pointers. I never drive "soft" or take it easy, but sometimes drive cautiously, and more often than not "stupidly" (i.e. Not taking the best line)
Practice and information will help as always.
Thanks

Well, just got the car off the dyno (2nd time in a week). I thought I had found the power that was missing due to a dying cam sensor, but it is still down 25-30whp across the board
. Made 249.95 SAE on a dynojet (256whp STD). Down from 282whp 2 yrs ago. Looks like a new motor will need to go in over the winter.
Noel, are you going to swap tires on grid for the guys to run your car in STR?
Looks like Eric is now registered in BS.....nice opportunity to see how you stack up.
I really really hope the rain stays away....it doesn't look any better than last weekend at this point.

Some are hoping that it passes in the morning. No excuses either way. Neither from me or from you
At least you will not have to change tires for a change!
I'm really thinking about going back to STR for next year -- I hate changing tires and transporting them too. And could really use a chip to raise my rev. limiter. Whatever. It will be fun rain or shine.
