Looks like I'll be setting the KW Clubsports to the KW recommended settings for now. Height wise I told the shop to make it "as low as possible" without compromising handling and shock travel (I guestimated this would be around an inch drop form stock... which would be an increase in ride height from what i have now on the Skunk2 springs and fro what i had before on the Megan Track Series. As they are a race shop, I'm sure they'll be able to do this. Then begins the long and difficult process of dialing them in
. Looks like this mechanical engineer will have some research to do! hehe
I should be getting the car back either next weekend or the week after depending on if i have the valve retainers replaced or not (which is dependent on how much of the other work over laps time wise).
I'm really really excited to get this work done, and have a properly modded S, as opposed to the stuff the previous owner did to the car. Hopefully next summer I'll be able to get an HPDE course in. This summer i won't be able to afford it I don't think
I am very excited to attempt to enter the track community down here in the Mid-A. you guys are very knowledgeable and seem to have a generally awesome time at track events from the pictures I've seen
(thinks of Skip's hood flipping up and the "you're dong it wrong" picture)

Pete - Do I need to sign up to instruct, or is that your job?

I love Joe Wozney's rule number 9 from Terry Earwood "Hey y'all... watch this!" this is not limited to southern boys... northern redneck boys do this too
ask me how i know
glad i grew out of THAT phase of my life!

(thinks of Skip's hood flipping up and the "you're dong it wrong" picture)We're glad to have a new convert. If you can get on track this year, its going to be a whole lot more useful for you than a bunch of go fast parts you don't really need. All you must have is a bar, track pads, and a brake flush with good fluid. You'll need 10-15 track days before you are driving beyond the abilities of a stock S2000. The car is going to be far more capable stock than your driving is good. I did well over 30 track days, became an instructor, and went wheel to wheel in Lemons before doing all the stuff you are doing.
You'll have a blast when you show up, and then you'll tell me I am right about the above.

I'll already tell you that you are right about the above. The problem is that I had to get a lot of work done to the S to make it safe again (subframe problems... some other things such as improper wheel sizing..)
I got such a good deal on the parts... that it was hard for me to pass it up. I was planning that I'd have at least 20 track days before my driving abilities are beyond that of the stock S. I'm not confident about my skills at all... in fact I'm quite the opposite, i fear that even with a stock S my skill will not be high enough to be able to do an HPDE (although that is kind of the point of them haha)
Another problem that I had while getting these parts... is that I'm planning on settling down with my +1 in a year or two. I will be able to afford track days, but larger investments would be more difficult if I start a family. I had the ability to purchase them now, so I kind of pulled the trigger on it. The kid who owned the car before me took a lot of short cuts. and I didn't even have a stock car when i bought it ( I had MOST of the stock parts, but the condition of them were questionable IMHO). I did not want to have to buy all new (.. er used) stock parts, and have to replace them in a couple of years.
I don't know, I was just trying to think ahead because money from the summer on may be a little scarce for me with college loans kicking in come september. no matter what i'll probably be a bit timid (understatement...) my first 4 or 5 times out on a track, as I slowly gain skill and confidence.
the good news, is that i'm a great learner, pick up things quickly, have great common sense, and respect my elders and their knowledge (elders in the sense of both actual age, and knowledge age). Having very quick reaction skills (used to be a hockey goalie) will help too if i get into any trouble

A stock S is capable of of more than I get out of it.
