you could but LED's are better and you'd be taking a slight step backwards...
but... if you still wanted to do it, you'd have to choose between the 00-01 and the 02-03 tails... the later have chrome rings around the lens's...

Took over a year after I bought my car for me to realize that I had mismatched tail lights, and even then it was only because someone pointed it out to me

i could see that happening...

Or you could be super cool like me and have one of each...

Yeah I'm same way less is more. LEDs arent my thing so no loss there. I like amber in the headlights but I I think in taillights its just to much for me. So I guess I like 00-01 never really noticed.til oleg rolled my fenders and I stared at his lights for two hours how much more I liked them compared to mine.

i like the 00-01's better than the 02-03's... i like the less is more thing...

but in the end it just doesn't matter...

I think its the LED factor - and slightly the look.
The conversion itself from Ap1 - Ap2 requires cutting part of the interior of the trunk. The AP2 tail lights have a different plug (need an adapter or need to rig it yourself) and the bolts are in slightly different locations IIRC.
The conversion wouldn't be necessary, as the plug should still fit (ap2 is 2 prong and ap3 is 3??) and the ap2 frame is already cut out (but not needed).
I thought about this when I had my trunk and tail rearranged last winter, but ultimately decided to just replace for the ap1.
