Default Any Mid-A-rs been to Kuwait?

I know several of you may have been in the area and I was hoping to get your thoughts on travel there.

I have been asked to work a project in Kuwait for up to 1 month. Is this something I should do or try to get out of?

Your thoughts?

I'm thinking its good money but money isn't everything I've got two little girls that I would miss like crazy.

I've been to Oman and Dubai so I assume that things in Kuwait would be somewhat similar. Forget alcohol (unless you're on a military base or in some private homes), no pork chops and weekends that consist of Friday and Saturday. Food is not bad, traffic is horrible...one month isn't a long time if the money is good.

It's been a long time since I was over there but I know it's pretty safe now, nothing like Iraq. I'd say go for the money and experience--you may gain some insight into the holy war.

been there once when i was stationed @ saudi during the Gulf war..so my perspective is a little biased. Desert life, dry weather , food is ok, gold is plentiful to buy. People there will stop and pray a few times a day. busineeses will close when that happens. Work was work, but I was counting my days . Its an experience though, I think you should look into, if you haven't been to the middle east. I agree, a month will go fast. I was there for more than that.

This is good info. I want to go because I think it'll be a great experience. I don't want to go if I'll be uncomfortable walking around to check out the sites, instead sitting in a hotel room when I'm not working.

Kuwait is designated as a "high risk" area for contractors. Should I be worried? Will I be looking over my shoulders the entire time?

I know very little about international travel so I'm trying to figure out what to expect. I understand Kuwaiti's (sp?) speak rather good english so communication shouldn't be a problem.

^^ Kuwait is designates as "high risk" for pay purposes but, it's not bad. I know because I have some friends that's been there recently.

I've been to the surrounding area myself but, that was during Desert Shield and Desert Storm wars. Places like Dubai, Abu-dhabi, Jubal-Ali, and Fujaira, all I can say is...it was a blast! I had a good time while there, also I have my own flat (apartment).

The only reason you may be uncomfortable is because you won't speak the language. The vast majority of Kuwaitis (actually almost everyone from that part of the Middle East) speak English or can point you to someone who does. The food might be a bit different than what you're used to but it's nothing totally strange. There'll be a lot of lamb (and now and then some camel) but it's all edible. Make sure you drink only bottled water though. Go and have a great time and take lots of pictures. You won't regret the trip.
