Default Anyone installed a drivers door mirror?

I just got the Muz convex mirror and it is going to be wonderful - - if I can ever get the old mirror off.

The instructions say to merely pull out on the base of the old mirror and it will snap off like cakework. However, I have been pulling with a moderate amount of effort and the old mirror refuses to give. I would estimate that I have been pulling with about 30 pounds of force. When I try harder, the mirror wobbles wildly left to right and it feels like the entire actuator assembly is getting ready to be ripped from the mirror pod.

I checked the search function which says to keep trying. One suggestion indicated that the mirror adhesive may be temperature sensitive and winter may be the wrong time to attempt this mod.

As an alternative, I notice that there are slots in the bottom of the new mirror where it might be possible to insert a screw driver and pry the old mirror from the actuator plate. Using the "feel" test, I'm not sure that the old mirror has such slots and I haven't been able to visually confirm this option yet.

Aside from waiting for summer or heating up the old mirror with a blow drier, does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Uhhh... you did remove your door panel to unbolt the mirror base, right? Just guessing here.

i believe he's referring just to the mirror part and not the whole assembly.

i'd still go with a blow dryer and heat up the adhesive to get the mirror to come off easier. try adjusting the mirror from the inside to the extreme right to get the left corner out.

The hairdryer will help with the sticky stuff. The clips holding the mirror on do a pretty good job by themself. A little heat and more pulling force will get it off.

Hard to do in the winter time. I did this when I first bought my car (summertime/early fall many years ago). It does kind of make a cracking sound when you do it.
