Default Anyone know how to use a PC?

as the title says, I was wondering if anyone in the region was good with a PC. I have some light swirls I want to get rid of but I don't want to buy a PC and have the S be my first experience with it. So yea, anyone want to help me out...both get the swirls out (from what I'm picking up online its just light stuff...no aggressive cutting or anything like that) and show me a thing or two about using a PC...I'd pay for all new pads and wax of your choice and you could keep everything. Heck, itd be a nice little wash and wax if we got a few people to show up. Any takers?

You should attend the wash and wax meets that I put together every couple months. I've detailed quite a few of the members cars on here, and if you have serious swirls, a PC just won't cut it. Where are you located at anyways?

In a month or so. We had one last month, and had about 32 S2000's there. Just keep an eye on the boards and it'll be announced soon.

I'm right outside richmond, but I'd be willing to go anywhere...and I dont think the swirls are that bad, just unsightly

But anyways, I'll definitely have to come to a wash and wax then.

When I had my detailing business I invested in both a PC and a more rugged GEM Orbital (GEM Orbital ).

BTW, If you are looking for an alternative to the PC, a friend of mine had this Cyclo Orbitaland loved it. I'm going to get myself one before Summer starts.

I sold the PC to a friend and kept the GEM. It isn't as easy to manuever into tight areas, but its weighted which means no pressure needed across the surface of the car, it is also much quieter and smoother to operate. Keep in mind, this was important to me when detailing cars every day. You need to decide what is best for your application.

Unlike the PC it is only one speed (at least the PC I had was 6 speeds), so no worries about burning the paint or damaging anything (with the PC I wouldn't worry either so long as you keep the speed down and use the right pads and chemicals).

I think you would be surprised what a quality swirl remover can help you do if those swirls are not really bad. Otherwise as 4theheckof_it pointed out, if they are serious then you will probably need more help.

If you don't want to spend the money on a PC, why not just buy some quality swirl remover, polish and Wax and then get a decent orbital from Costco or Wal-Mart and then return it when you are done

(Im not suggesting that action btw, but it is an options)

take care,
Chris

Thanks for the info on the GEM, guess I'll take a second look at doing it myself. Would it be a problem to start using this on my S first? I've read up on some detailing websites and the wash and wax forum, but still like some more opinions....

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Stick with the PC...it's a great product and since it's such an industry standard, you'll always have an easy time finding pads, etc.

All 3 of the orbitals I listed are 'industry' standards. The GEM doesn't require a special pad, it uses an 11" bonnet that you can find on any quality car care site and even at local auto part stores if you so choose. If you wanted a cutting or polising pad you utilize a velcro back pad attachment, just like the other orbitals.

The Cyclo has easy-to-find parts too, just have to look on the right sights.

Anyway, as people have said here, the PC is easy to use, find and is a good price. You won't hurt the car. If anything it is easier to use then the GEM just based on the fact that its weight is so low and it is smaller.

If you haven't already checked it out look at this site:Proper Auto Care they have great basic information on waxing/polishing and you can CALL them and TALK to them about their recommendations. I've been using their site and products for my personal cars for years and never once had an issue with them. Great resource.

good luck,
Chris
