Anyone use American Express?
Yesterday my company had their annual sales kickoff meeting, lots of hoopla and ra ra crap.
We also get sales awards for 2005.
For the last 4 years I always manage to win a marketing program and was paid in Amex travelers checks, which I took right to the bank and deposited.
This year they gave out American Express Gift cards. I cannot cash them, they are only good at places that accept American Express gift cards (which is not every establishment that accepts American Express) You cannot use this for gas, hotel, airfare, car rental.
I mean who the fcuk takes American Express gift cards? I can only dine at Outback and shop at the Gap so many times.
I was going to pay for my new diff with this money that I already purchased via my mastercard)
I will be fully taxed on this as income at something like % 50 too.
Anyone want to purchase $ 1500.00 (3 $ 500 cards) for less than $ 1500.00?
Yes it's nice to win awards and money, but this is stupid.

Try going into a AAA office - they always sell the old AmEx gift checks and might be able to give you cash for your cards. Also, try calling American Express, they'll probably let you mail them the gift cards in exchange for a check or tell you how to do it locally.
As for getting taxed - legally you should have been taxed in years past as well. Consider yourself lucky. I've heard stories of people getting a $25 prize (cash, product, gift card, etc.) and then getting the tax form at the end of the year.

I already called AM EX, they cannot be exchanged for anything.
I was taxed in the previous years also, but the full amount was already in my bank account so it wasnt a big deal.
From another forum
Never used 'em but could be worth a shot.
ran across this site called cardavenue.com and really like it. There is no charge to buy or sell gift cards at auction, or to trade them with someone else, but you must have a paypal account. You just list of the cards you have,(cardavenue will get some information about them from you) and list the cards you would like to trade for. It is just that simple. I first heard about the site on a local new channel.

maybe you could use them at bed bath and beyond... but you might not have enough time...
Ill check and see if we can use them here at the Airport... if so I can exchange them for cash minus the 3.5%
I got a $50 Amex gift card in the past, and it was nearly impossible to use. One of the downsides is that you have to spend it exactly. For example, if I wanted to buy something that cost $75, it wouldn't let you split it up as $50 on the card and $25 cash. Not only that, but there was also no way to easily check the balance on the card (at least a couple of years ago) so I had like $13 or something left, but had to go on their website to find that out.
I've advised my company not to use them again.

I had been given an AMEX gift card for about $200.00. I used it to buy a Vac'n'Blo vaccum cleaner for my S2000. It was a great gift and I use the vaccuum all the time. I think I bought it from http://www.properautocare.com/detail...cessories.html over the phone.
You could make a list of things you want and find a way to pay for them with the cards. I wouldn't mind another AMEX gift card. The first one was great.
