Thumbs up ATTENTION:

I don't know anything about TRIPODS. I've been on B&H looking for a new one but i don't know what to look for when choosing a new one. Any one have a recommended model for a Nikon D80. I'm not using a super lens so i don't think i need one rated for more than 15LB's. Could someone explain to me the advantages and disadvantages between a tripod with a pivoting ball and one with turn knob tilt adjustments. Thank you in advance.

Get a ball head. You'll thank me later. It's less precise but makes for quick changes.

This looks like a decent kit here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/4941...Kit_Black_.html

I think I have the same legs, but I have a panning ballhead. Support is very, very important. Some will recommend you spend a small fortune on the best here. I've only had the urge to upgrade to get something lighter, but I'll live.

There was some discussion recently in the Photography forum. S2Ki search is down, but maybe you can use "site:s2ki.com" on Google to track down the thread.

You might get more response bumping that old thread from the photography forum. Honestly, I think the link I posted at B&H is a great value unless you want to support more weight.
