Question? How long will the stock plugs go based on a Stock AP1 motor? The spec is 100K miles. What is practical and realistic? How about, valve adjustments? What interval is realistic?
Matt,

I had my valves adjusted by one of Hardtopguy's mechanics at FC 05 at about 15,000 miles. They were all a bit off from the factory or after break in. Now that I know that they are set right I figure I'm probably good for a long time.

Just a comment, there have been reports of the the denso iridiums dropping their tips into the engines and killing the motors. Report in the technical section here on 's2ki confirmed by either Billman or Slow2k (I don't remember which).

I'm only going to use OEM.

NGK copper plugs all the way. But, if you are not capable enough to change them out yourself every 1 year or 10,000 miles then just stick with platinum.

Copper plugs make the best spark, hands down. The platinum tipped plugs simply last longer, they do NOT outperform plain old copper for best spark.

OEM plugs make 240hp and last 50K + miles. I'm not sure why you'd need more. Your coils can make about 40-50K volts and typically are only making 12K, just enough to bridge the gap with a spark. The coils are designed with reserve capacity so, even if the gap opens up some, they just step up the voltage enough to compensate.

There's nothing magical about spark plugs. They're all about the same. It's all marketing.

There's no reason not to use OEM and most of the time, there's no reason to change them.

I hope your statement is referring to only stock and fairly stock cars... cuz if you get into modding the car then your statement is wrong.

CaptKirk, exactly what mods need different spark plugs? FI maybe to change the temp range. Stock engine with bolts ons sure doesn't need them.

Thats why i said that your statement applies to "stock or fairly stock cars." I consider I/H/E test pipe, yada yada all fairly stock...

And yes I was referring specifically to FI...
