I'm sitting here seeing everyone wishing Cale a happy birthday and I just can't join in on that. I can't wish him a happy birthday because he is not home where he belongs having a happy birthday with family and friends.

The best I can do is take comfort in knowing that he lived each and every birthday -- and every day in between for that matter -- here on Earth to its fullest. This is something that I'll always admire. Miss you, Cale... The way that you lived your life is truly an inspiration.

This from Jon Felton on the NASA forum in reference to Cale's birthday.

"Speaking of toasts, a round #57 decal identical to the graphic in some signatures on here... was on all 120+ cars at VIR this past Mon-Tues (it was the tech sticker.)"

It's rare for me to checkup on the Mid-A forums. I'm damn sorry to have read all of this. I never met him but I've driven Summit Point and this kind of accident scares me so much. For those of you that were his friend, I'm sincerely sorry for your loss.

I've never met him in person and this is still very very hard to hear

My prayers go out to his family and friends.

A seized caliper certainly sounds possible, but I'd imagine you would still get some clamping force from the remaining 3 calipers, no?
Late response to this, but this causes abs to to haywire too. Your right, three calipers does provide stopping power. However, your vector will be biased to one direction due to that increased stopping power on one side of the car. Add to that a haywired abs system and it throws another round of variables into the mix.

jasonjm, check out this thread here for discussions on the cause of this event.
