Car Theft
yeah i wouldnt even bother with a GPS alarm because for the most part the theives will only steal stuff off your car and not the whole car itself, although i did hear a fellow S owner just up in MD got his S stollen a few weeks ago so who knows.
lol, it's not THAT bad.
Get an alarm if it makes you feel better. But so many people by shitty falsing alarms that people ignore them now. The pager option is the way to go.
I'd say you've got just as good a chance for vandalism as any other vehicle with a soft top. It's also highly dependant on WHERE you live in the area. And even then, it's a crap shoot. Olney isn't exactly the ghetto, but that's where Dom's wheels were taken from.

too bad it's illegal to setup your car to shock the hell out of anyone that touches it after the alarm goes off.
I think I saw a car stolen out of the lot across the street the other night. The alarm started going off, lights flashing, then pretty soon it started up and drove off with the quickness, alarm going and lights flashing, stopped nearby (could hear it faintly) then I couldn't hear it any more.
Of course it was too far away for me to make out anything, including the make/model, but it sorta worried me.

... and we were just talkin about how nice your little "development" is the other day. MO CO IS POOP
Fred - I know you mean well... but I've got to fill you in ont this since you may not know. Commercial posting is reserved for site sponsors, and even then, only in the For Sale forums where it can be strictly monitored. There have been so many problems in the past (even with sponsors themselves) that they've become pretty strict about it.
Yea, crime happens anywhere and everywhere. It really sucks, but my personal opinion is don't try to give thieves as many options and possibilities as possible (i.e. don't leave stuff in plain view, drop top even if your leaving the car for a second). Usually aftermarket alarms w/ motion sensor options is good but not guaranteed protection.
According to 2004 stats, the DC/MD/VA/WV area ranks #31 in top auto thefts nationwide...
http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Insura...car/P127136.asp
just over 32,000 thefts in 2004, a rate of 656 thefts/100,000 (population)
That's pretty high up there, but California is way worse.
