Default Be Careful Out There

Hey guys,
Just a word to the wise to be careful out there. I had a run-in with a guardrail last night in my S due to ice on the roadway. I was getting off of Rt28 N onto Waxpool Rd (Ashburn area) and at the top of the on ramp the entire road was covered in ice. By the time I realized it the backend was coming around the left. I tried to steer out of it (off the gas, clutch in) in the opposite direction and the backend came back around but I could not fully straighten the car out before the right front passenger side hit the guardrail. That has to be one of the worst feelings in the world. Needless to say the bumper is trashed, the right headlight/assembly, & there is damage to the passenger side fender.
So keep an eye out for the ice & remember that everything that was wet this morning/afternoon will probably be ice tonight.

ps: My bro is a cop in Loudoun and I was talking to him last night about it when a call came in for an accident where a tractor trailer had jackknifed at that same location. Be careful out there.

I'm running Dunlop Winter Sport D2's on the car. I think the only thing that would have helped out last night would have been some sort of studded tire. Which we all know is not an option. In most cases tires do not have that big an impact on ice...especially if your in a turn.

ps: I like your self marketing strategy

Jstar,

Thanks for sharing this with us. I am sorry that happened to you but you are absolutely right. In icy road conditions, best snow tires will be of little use once the car starts to slip. Momentum will always win no matter what you do to counter balance it. I hope all goes well with your repair work.

Sorry to see this...doesn't seem like there was much you could do. Good luck with the repairs. Glad it wasn't worse.

Front bumper cover from Hardtopguy = $218. They don't come painted.
