Default cheap beater, reliable

i have a friend who is in need of a beater. She was forced to leave her home and parents want her car back. she needs a car to attend school and go to her job.

does anyone here have access to auction cars or know or have a cheap beater?

i am offering to purchase the vehicle for her until she gets back on her feet and don't want to spend more than $1000. i don't think she can afford anything more. since gas prices have been pretty high, something that gets about 20MPG. thanks peeps... much appreciated.

it does sound good. the only problem is that she doesn't drive stick.. and getting her to drive a car without power steering is going to be difficult.

she isn't very good at checking the oil level so how much oil does it burn? 1 qt every 3k? or 2qt?

i forgot where you are located..
