Default Construction Zone Speed Camera on I-95

SO, I was just passing through Friday night from Philadelphia to Richmond. I-95 south in the construction zone before the Harbor Tunnels when great flashes of light fired off behind me. My wife asked if it was lightning, My reply, "I wish".

Are these speed cameras ligitimate and functional? Has anyone gotten a citation from these? Wouldn't they have to have pictures of the driver in addition to the plates? Should they really be snapping photos when workers aren't present?

I saw another post in Mid-A that said these cameras are found around schools and issue $40 fines by mail. I'm not clear on the interstate construction zones.

Anyone with experience or advice related to these polaroids? Your input is appreciated.

I'll admit I was in the wrong, but not too wrong. An Audi Q7 was more wrong than I was.

Yes, and yes. Well, I didn't get the citation, but I know someone who has.

Nope, the ticket just goes to whoever the vehicle is registered to. No points against your license though, since they can't prove you were driving the vehicle at the time.

I don't think they should, but there's nothing to say they can't. You saw how fast that camera was flashing (or maybe not if it wasn't crowded at the time). They're making a lot of money out there

I got hit two months ago by that and I never got a ticket. I'm not sure what lane they target, but I was in one of the middle ones.

If there is more than 1 car in the picture they have to throw it out since they can't prove which car triggered the camera.

I appreciate your feedback. Lots of good information that makes me feel better about the incident. I was in a middle lane, and was surrounded by about 5 cars, an Audi q7 blew by us all. Perhaps the crowd of cars cancels the citation as mentioned.

If I do have to pay for my mistake, it's nice to know the points won't go against my license. $40 fine sucks, but it's better than an insurance increase.

I thank you all for your feedback.

these Jeep(or some similar vehicle) mounted speed camera is also in the construction zone between rt.198 and rt.212 on I-95 as you approach/leaving the DC beltway. So, be careful there.

Since I commute thru there everyday, here's my theory, the camera seems to always be shooting on the direction which is NOT rush hour traffic. I'm guessing they do this to avoid throwing away pictures for the above mentioned reasons. In the AM it is shooting I-95 North(driving away from the DC beltway) 100% of the time. In the PM, it is 90% Northbound and sometimes Southbound.

FYI im 92% sure that the jeep only takes pictures of the back of cars. So you should have enough time to see it and slow down. And as far as i know it can target all lanes at the same time. Though it doesnt matter since everyone else around you is slamming on their brakes and doing 45 even though you dont get a ticket until you go 12 over.

It is 100% that only the back of the cars are pictured.

Only if you expect it to be there, you are going to look for it. For the uninformed person, it just looks like a construction related vehicle parked on the other side of the wall.

...and yes, I also believe it can target all lanes.
