Default Convertible Top Tears

This has been a hot topic on the Forums but I wanted to see if anyone in this region has been experiencing a serious defect with their tops. I have a vertical 3" line on both sides of the top behind the rear windows that you can see daylight through when you are inside the car. This is being caused by the small plastic piece which is supposed to guide the top into place when the top is lowered. This plastic piece is causing abrasion on the inside top material. Some pics on the forum show an actual hole and mine is close to becoming just that! It is happening to owners who have 01 and 02 models, especially ones with higher mileage who apparently use the car as daily drivers. Honda apparently recognized this defect and corrected it on the 02 models with some sort of an elastic band over the bars in the top area of the roof (I'm not certain of the exact fix). I am contacting my dealership today as I purchased the extended warranty and this is a potential defect for everyone over time. I thought I read that some owners were getting a new top and others were directed by their dealer to a fabric repair shop? My thought is that this is not a repair issue but a design issue. It needs to be fixed on cars that dont have any damage yet and the top needs to be replaced on cars that exhibit the kind of damage I have as well as others. Do you guys think this is a warranty/recall issue and what course of action would you propose. Thanks.

I've had my top replaced twice in the 1.5 years I've had the car, due to vandalism (once to the back window, once to the top itself) so I, of course haven't seen anything like this.

No one in the Richmond area, that I know of, has spoken of it either.

Where is the small plastic guiding piece you speak of? Is it on the top or somewhere in the well area where the top folds up?

They are located on the inside near where the rear roof bar comes down along the side. My damage is directly in line with this plastic piece as well as most others who have this damage. The damage is occuring from the inside and now I have a hole all the way through the top. It is behind the bar and folding mechanism. I dont have a digital camera but there are pics posted on this topic in the forums that show both inside damage and exterior damage (abrasion & hole). This is serious guys and I have 41K on my 3 year old car. It appears to be happening with cars that are daily drivers which of course put the top up and down more frequently. I DONT want it patched by some fabric shop, I want it REPLACED. I called my dealers service manager and I'll keep you posted on my mission. Poor design.
