Beaters R Us! ...well not even close. However if any of you are thinking of a second car, give me a call. I still have a handful of 02 Civics that I can sell for your best offer(which will be $1300 below invoice at least).

Also have a few beaters/trades that may be able to get past MD State Inspection.

LMK.

I've had mine over 3 years with 41K and I didnt buy it to look at it in my garage, I drive it daily unless there is snow or ice then I take my wife to work and use her front wheel drive car. Yeah, a few minor scratches and chips but I detail part time and people think it's a new one. TLC, common sense when parking and no farting will keep a permanent smile on your face. Of course, I'm an old fart anyway.

I drive I-95 quite a bit. My '02 has quite a few(probably 8-10) little areas missing paint from rocks/general debris flying off other cars at speed. At first I was not happy , but then realized I could end the painting-chipping... I could leave 'er in the geee-rage.

NOT!!! I just Zaino her and love her. I didn't buy the Sebring 'cause I like the color(IMHO, it's kinda boring for a sports car, but the Mrs. wanted nothing to do with the red or yeller). I bought her because I test-drove one... that's all it took. Enjoy what many other never will... driving exhileration and thousands of "What kinda car is that?!"

I'm a daily but after yesterday when I got rear ended on good ol' Riesterstown Rd I'm having 2nd thoughts. (why can't people wait until the light turns GREEN before they go)?????
Not any visible damage done (a little scratch on the back bumper, maybe some extra rattles) but I'm taking it to a body shop this PM to make sure.

Anyway, now I'm wondering about making the S a garage queen - the only problem is that I love to drive it too much. I'm beginning to think I'm jinxed. I've been rear ended 4 times since I moved to Balto. (all I was doing each time was following traffic - no weird stuff).

I agree that the car is made to be driven but the way idiots drive around here I just want to be sure I have a car to drive!

Lajster- It doesn't matter when you drive... the idiots will find you! Same basic thing happened to me on the way home from Fall Colors this year. Guy hit my driver rear bumper while traffic was moving at 3-4 mph. Had to have the rear bumper painted .

But like you said, the car's way too much fun to drive. Keep on keepin' on!

FF2Skip - Kind of makes you wonder what the hell is going on in their minds (if anything) doesn't it.

Maybe I'll get a beater and just use it part of the time (cut down my chances of meeting up with some of these crazy's). But you're right, you really can't win. Murphy's law 203 states that the newer & more exciting the car the better the chance of it being hit.

Okay, this is a subject I know plenty about...I have only one car (59 300SL) that has survived "The Idiots".....partly because it's pracitcally rock-proof, given the 12 coats of rock resistant clearcoat. Testing that stuff was a nightmare...picture someone pickng up a handful of gravel and just HURLING it at your car).

My old S2000 was not so fortunate.....some jerk in a mall parking lot backed into my car SO HARD they put the driver's side taillight assembly into the trunk....AND THEN DROVE AWAY! I was really pissed...moreso because the car was borrowed by my dad without telling me.

I am going to get a new one...and it will be my daily....I just don't think the car is happy sitting around collecting trace amounts of dust for weeks at a time. For better or for worse I am hooked. I AM planning on having the car "coated" this time around to minimize the "Beltway Burn"

DRIVE ON!

I guess I'm kind of in the middle. My S is not a daily driver this time of year. I drove it every day but about 5 or 6 between June (when I got it), and November (when the weather turned to shit in NJ). I put on 10K miles in that 5 month span, and my work commute is only 10 miles each way. Plenty of fun time, and driving for the sake of driving. Pure enjoyment on those days.

I've been using it about once/twice a week now, depending on the weather. I have yet to drive with the top up, unless I get caught out somewhere when it rains/snows.

On the days I do drive it, I use it like a regular car. Work, Stores, Mall, etc.. I do what I have to do. I look for a 'safe' spot, but at the same time, try to avoid attention by making is so obvious. I do think the small size helps in avoiding damage. I find I have plenty of room in most spots to avoid the car next to me, particularly if nestled up against a curb.

I've had two door dents and a pretty good scratch in 38k. I'd be damned, though, if I'd drive around in a peice of crap to avoid that.

Since MY '00 S2000s hit $23,599 at Carmax this week, I'd feel especially foolish if I'd treated it like an investment. Glad I didn't pay $35k for it!
