Very good point. Being repainted should be about -$1000 value, day off work should be about (my regular rate = $90/hr) $720, hm... rental car (comparable = what? Muricelego?)... Good points. Do insurance companies really pay out on these things? I think it might be a tough battle...

Most insurance companies (Geico for one!) will provide you with a rental car for up to $20 a day for up to 30 days, if you (or the other person) has full coverage.

The $20 will probably get you a 2002 dodge neon, anything more comes out of your own pocket.

To get loss of wages, you'd have to sue the guy/girl.

I'd suggest that you fight for "diminished value". It'll be a struggle, but if you keep hassling them, they may throw some cash your way. It's worth the effort.

Man, that's heartbreaking. Hope it comes out nice after the body shop. I got a good body shop if you need one.

Thanks for the offer, F1... I've been using Rockville Auto Body in Rockville on Taft Street (off Gude and 28) for a couple of years now. They do really high quality work. A number of ppl on the board have actually used them and been rather pleased, from what I understand.

Excellent work, professional staff and very pleasant to deal with.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris- I received dimished value on my truck that got hit this year. It is separate from the claim for repairs. So much so that a separate check was cut. I never sued anyone and received loss of wages, medical treatment/pain & suffering payment(I was in vehicle), and repairs. When I went to pick up the settlement, I asked about "dimished value."

I then had to have a dealership tell me(in writing) what they would give me for the vehicle, then an independent appraiser gave a number to the insurance company, then a check. Terrible grammar, but you get the point. Be persistent is my advise.

FF - thanks for the info. Did you get the car appraised (say from CarMax?) without the damage? And the independent appraiser? More details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

yes, they do. Some of my clients have been able to claim all the money as it was due to them. you would not have to take off from work, rent cars, and etc if he/she had not hit you. It's not a tough battle, keep all documentation and present it in proper way to the insurance company.

my 2 cents.

Coming off 370 / Sam Eig onto Great Seneca Hwy this afternoon I pull up next to a blue S2000, slow down next to em and smile. First it was a quick smile and wave then all I got was
