Well, I happened to be helping a neighbor today, driving him around because of car trouble. He ended up buying a Tundra last night and had to go by his insurance company. Well, it had relocated. So we finally get the new location's address and head on over.
Lo and behold, it's next to a shop advertising tuning, performance mods and dyno'ing. While my neighbor was doing his insurance thing I wandered down to the shop and talked to two of the guys. I left feeling "okay" about them.
Well, not one to plan things out or stay to a plan, I call 'em back up and ask if they can dyno the car before 1pm. "Sure, no problem. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour." "Great! I'll be over in a few."
79 degrees and drizzling out, we hooked the PrincesS up. The air filter is way dirty, but I don't think that would cause a major drop in power. Three pulls is $74.80 Not exactly eye-popping numbers. Here are the averages of the three pulls:
Avg. Max HP: 191.17 @ 8400 rpm(+100-200 rpm)
Avg. Max Torque: 132.74 @ 6400 rpm(+100-200 rpm)
A/F @ tailpipe
Since I watched him hit the rev-limiter, I know the charted rpm's are a little off(200-400 rpm). It was a DynoJet and a small fan in front of the car. also, the numbers on the dyno(in STD mode) were different than the ones on my printout. The printout numbers are slightly lower- almost 1 unit on each measurement.
Btw, this place is just down the road from me. I'm going to solicit opinions of the shop from other local car guys and see what they think of the shop.
Not sure if weight has anything to do on the dyno, but the entire sound system was in place when tested. The runs were done in 3rd gear per my answer to his "What gear?" question. I just found out that 4th gear pulls are supposedly better.
If you want to see it in a larger format, keep clicking on it until you don't get the little thing that says you can click on it again and wait for the enlarge icon in the lower righthand corner. I'm not a computer guy, so please forgive my ignorant description.
Not too bad Skip. Although numbers differ wildly from dyno to dyno at least you got a good "before" run in. What's important is the deltas from your "after" run
The general consensus is fourth gear is the way to go. But you're either gonna need to do your "after" pull in third or go for another "before" pull in fourth. Just make sure both runs are on the same dyno under similar conditions. Otherwise it'll be useless.
whats the place called?? and how far is it from fairfax? i want to do a baseline dyno on my car before i start to mod the engine...and they seem to be rather quick with it..

I actually don't remember. I know that it's on Rt 1 just after exiting I-95 at exit #130A. I know they said they give discounts for groups.

Dave, doesn't it seem as though I'm running a bit rich?
I don't think those numbers are anything to worry about. That's pretty consistent. If you try to mess with it you could lose that. Lean is more powerful, but rich is safe. You're stradlding the line right now.
