Ouch, $24 for patching a tire. Sam's Club does it for free ... regardless of whether you bought the tire from them or not Although I think technically they're supposed to only do it for customers who have bought tires from them.

Oh well, at least you have the key now.
Yeah, tell me about it. That was my reaction when they showed me the bill. I've had it done for free by a local gas station in the past. Another shop charged me $5. I think $24 is ridiculous. However, since they gave me the wheel key with no charge, I didn't want to push my luck.

There is a certain patch that requires removing the tire from the rim and having to put the tire back on and re-balancing.. It's a great way to patch I think. Has anyone seen this one? I had one of my tires patched this way once.

They find the hole, then they drill the hole out larger. They take this plug with a large square base and a thick pole up the middle and they pull it through the hole they make. They use some glue on the inside of the base and around it once they get it through the hole. They let it dry completely at that point.

Did you get any paperwork with the car that possibly covered the wheel locks? Such paperwork may have the lock ID number and you can get another key from McGard after you get the tire repaired and avoid having to purchase a new set of locks.

They did say that they balanced the wheel after patching. I wonder if they used the technique you're referring to?

They did provide me with a wheel lock key free of charge. I haven't actually tested it yet, but I presume that they wouldn't give me one that didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I love to bring this up...

Do you know about the "Secret Compartment"? If not, your lock might be in there.

Just thought I'd ask since no one else did.

Yep, on top of the center counsole. Seems that a lot of owners don't know that it's there (hence the term "secret")

Hah. Now you're starting to sound like the guy at the Honda dealership. Yes, I did check the secret compartment. Back in May when I first bought the car. And yesterday again before I brought it to the dealership. And I checked the toolkit in the trunk, and the area around the spare tire.
