Thumbs down Flat Tire + Missing Wheel Lock Key

Tonight I noticed that my rear passenger side tire was somewhat flat. I didn't have a pressure gauge with me, so I just drove slowly to the local gas station. When I got there and hooked it up to the air pump, it turned out that there was 0 LB of pressure in the tire. No air leaked or anything, even when hooking up the air hose!!!

Anyway, I filled it back up to about 35lbs and then drove off. I need to get the tire patched or replaced, but then remembered that when I bought my car last year, Koons of Manassas never gave me the wheel key.

Do I have to go back there, or can I go to any dealer? Is the key something that dealers would have in the parts department, or would they have to custom order it or actually replace the lock all together?

they will likely have to replace your entire set of wheel locks and give you a new key. luckily, most shops can remove locks without keys, but some are more reluctant than others.

you should be alright to go to any dealer, since they will be replacing the set. however, i would give Koons a call to see if by some chip shot they will give you a free replacement.

A kid came up from Richmond to have me install springs on his S. He left the wheel lock key down south. A local dealership lent him the set of keys. I had the same thing happen to me once. I did not buy the car from them and yet they gave me a free set of locks w/ key.

Yeah, they are the stock 17" wheels that came with the car. I guess I'll call the service department before I head out and ask how they'll handle it so I can save myself the drive. I guess I should just keep calling dealerships until I get the answer I want?

If you just want the wheel lock off, any Honda dealership will be able to remove it for free, they have a master set of keys. Happened to my friend once, he lost the key and they took off the lock for free and replaced it with a normal lug nut.

Don't know how easily you're going to find a Honda dealership willing to give you a whole new set of wheel locks for free though. You're most likely going to need to talk to Koons where you originally got your set from. Might be kind of difficult to prove since its been so long since you've bought the car.

Good luck with it ... I was able to get Pohanka Acura to give me a whole new set of wheel locks when one of their mechanics replaced one of my wheel locks with a normal lug nut. I'm assuming he probably used an air gun on the lock and stripped the hell out of it and assumed I wouldn't notice.

Could be that there are only 8 possible key/sets total...I thought there were 10 . Regardless, I have a key that doesn't fit a set of wheel locks (long story ).

I'd be happy to ship it to ya for a test fit if you'd like. Consider it a 1-in-10 (or 8) chance that it'd work for you in the long run. And it isn't doing me any good otherwise.

I've got your addy from a recent PM. Just tell me if you'd like me to mail it to you.

By the way...as folks have indicated...most dealerships will just remove it for you with their master key set (looks like a lil' Craftsman snap-box of sockets -- in this case, key locks -- and they just rifle through them until the correct key lock works for ya). You can imagine how handy that is for their mechanics working on cars who's owners brought the car in for work and failed to think ahead ).

So I did end up taking it to Koons of Manassas. The guy I talked to on the phone was busy, so I had to talk to another service person who was a bit standoffish. However, he did send it off with a tech and told me I could either wait or come back. I came back an hour later and they had found a wheel key that matched, taken my wheel off and patched the tire.

They gave me the wheel key free of charge since I had never received one with my car, but they did charge me their normal fee ($24) for patching the tire. Overall I'm pretty happy.

Ouch, $24 for patching a tire. Sam's Club does it for free ... regardless of whether you bought the tire from them or not Although I think technically they're supposed to only do it for customers who have bought tires from them.

Oh well, at least you have the key now.
