Sorry to hear about that man, but as Tom said, it might be a good idea to get some sort of document signed by him that he's responsible for the incident and he'll take care of it. You don't want him to think its just a Honda and will be cheap to fix, and when he sees the estimate he backs out because its too much...
I don't know the guy thats why I think this might be the safe route...
Good luck with the repairs

I got the estimate yesterday. He is still going to honor his offer to take care of the damages.
I should have a check from him next week.

Actually, I was being serious. I do have taillights from my '02.

This is the part I don't understand. If a guy backed into your car and hit it and damaged it, why didn't he leave a note or come tell you that this is what happened. How is it that you have to be the detective to figure things out? Does it mean then that if you hadn't noticed or drove off wondering how this happened, he would not have told you? How could this be decent? I don't understand it. People need to be honest and tell truth even when it hurts especially when it deals with something like backing into another person's car and damaged it. That is just how I see it. I hope everything works out for you. Being honest means you tell the truth without being confronted in my opinion.

.....but, he does drive a heavy truck, and the damage to my car was minimal (smashed tail light and plastic bumper molding pushed inward, no metal damage).
So, it is possible for him to have pushed it in without (given his speed, which is unknown) knowing he had done so.
Given his character, he believe him to be honest about the situation. And I have no hard feeling toward him.
