I don't know what kind of discount we can get, but the R3 is $995 MSRP. It comes with all required mounting hardware for 1 helmet. I assume they will sell extra D rings for a second helmet.

Just want to say how fantastic idea this is. I don't know how much group buy cost is going to be but for sure it'll be a small amount when the time comes.

PCA Potomac Annual Summer Event, July 12th. He's my pit buddy for several events and whenever we see at the track. Both driver and passenger (yes pasenger too) are wearing HANS. Some say it was because of the luck and some say because of Hans but for sure I'm not taking any chances. Happened at Summit Main T4. Car is currently at TPC shop in Jessup, MD. Don't wanna say who and how. Also have the video but rather not post it. Wears 20M HANS.

Here's another guy from rennlist. Walked away with only minor scratches on the face only because he was wearing a open face helmet. HANS = low cost life insurrance. Btw, I don't work for HANS. Just passing what I've read and seen in person. If you asked me, these are some serious serious wrecks that if it ever happen on the street, there would definitely be ugly. Only at the track, people are walking away with minor scratches. Like I said in one of the threads, cars are getting faster these days and safety of the driver is improving relatively minimal compare to the amount of horsepower we are able to use.

Does that mean the R3 is safer than the HANS? I will definitely be upgrading track safety equipment before my next event as well.

I'm IN.

I don't have any device yet. I'm ready for R3.

Rob, I have zero problem getting something going. I have already had some discussions with Brian at OG about devices in general today. There are pro's and con's to both devices. Regardless of end product, supplemental head restraints can help, but not eliminate head injuries.

Such a device is one part of the equation. Seats, bars, harnesses- all part of the end product(safety) as well.

I totally agree Skip, but as an instructor in the passenger seat of a 600hp STi driven by a 19 year old wearing only a stock 3 point seat belt, the R3 looks like the right device for me. Does OG sell the R3?

From the R3 website:
For a limited time, I will be offering a discount to various car clubs and forum members. The discount will be taken after you hit the "Add to Cart" button. This car club/forum discount WILL NOT BE UP FOR LONG.
It doesn't say what the discount is, but if OG doesn't sell the R3 it looks like we may be able to haggle directly with the manufacturer.

I do not believe OG sells the R3, if they do not CDOC sells them and you might be able to work a deal with them http://store.cdoc.com/detail.asp?id=38443&name=

1. This is the best time to purchase track items. The season is wrapping up for most regions, and generally, sales are slower for companies associated with our sport.

2. At any time, an instructor can refuse to get into a student's car if they feel unsafe. That can be related to the car and/or the student. Most of the time, it's a car thing.

I'm off today and will do some phone-calling. Last night we again discussed restraints at the get-together.

Hans you need a Hans compatible harnesses. Something like this, http://www.apexperformance.net/CartGenie/prod-1576.htm R3 doesnt need to care about that which is good. But, I'm not sure it'll be comfortable with that CF piece going pretty far down onto your back against the seat.
