Default hey "w1ngman"....question?

w1ngman, first of all i wanna thank you for providing the services that you do and for taking time from your schedule to gather and promote meetings. i havent been to one but i assume they are cool and fun.
now to my question about your services of changing the defussers of an s2k. would that legal. the reason why im asking is because i used to own a H-accord fully hooked up rims, b-kit, etc. and the clear corners was the part that gave away the most. i probably spend about 1,500 dollars in nonmoving violation tickets. 75 percent of that money was taken from me because of the clear corners. i love my s2k, its my baby; however, this baby is costing me an arm and a leg in the payments i just wanna know if its gonna cost me more in tickets if i get my defussers cleared. thanks

PS i havent had any tickets since i got my s2k, its been a year. i love my car too much to be speeding.

Maybe I can help I don't know the law by you but since all cars in the US have the amber or amber bulbs I assume regulations are pretty standard. The law in NJ states as long as you have an amber bulb it is legal. The white (or any other color except amber) bulb is what is illegal. Again, this is what I was told and that is why a lot of imported cars don't have the ugly amber reflectors on the bumpers in their home country. BMW is a prime example. Fed. regs in US state a certain area of the front and side of the vehicle need to be lighted or have a reflector. Hope that helped. Sorry I answered for you W1NGMAN not trying to step on toes just thought I would help.

Yup...suzukablueinnj nailed the answer for me. But your question, khryzthyan, is valid. I advise my customers to consider having me install amber bulbs to replace the clear turnsignal bulbs while I'm doing the modification. Some (including me veeeery shortly) have painted an appropriate portion of their replaced amber turnsignal bulb with Hi-temp silver paint...leaving enough strategically exposed as to allow the lighted amber bulb to shine into the reflector housing and light up amber during turnsignal activation. Very nice way to fully "look" clear and yet handle the law as well. And I'm not one that likes to fight Johnny Law.

Why don't you get hyper white for the bulbs that stay on and get amber turn signals and paint or whatever. I have had hyper white turn signals as well as hyper white bulbs that stay on and have not been caught yet, although I have only had clears for about a month. I think what pisses cops off most is the tint and exhaust, more than anything.

I did some research a ways back on this, but unfortunately I no longer have my notes. While there are some federal regulations and standards for turn signal, brake lights, head lights, etc., some individual states also have additional requirements. If I recall correctly, in some states it is legal to have clear or other color turn signals, in others the bulbs can be amber with clear lenses, and in others the lenses must be amber. I think in Maryland, we are required to have either clear or amber turn signals (but no other colors).

The general rule is that turn signals can be amber or - in the rear only - red. There can be no red lights visible from the front, and no white lights visible from the rear. This way, there is no confusing which way the car is facing, and you don't blind drivers behind you. Often, pale/white turn indicators are used. As long as they aren't blinding white/blue and have a relatively stock intensity, I doubt you'd be given any trouble unless there's another reason for attention.

Fortunately for me in Delaware that law does not apply. I did some research and the amber lights are not required in Delaware. Wooo Hooo.... That gives me another reason to consider using Dave's services when he is up here in February. Hmmm that just might be the perfect Bday present to myself since you'll be here on my Bday.
