Default Hurricane Katrina Aftermath

Hello all... I had a couple stories I wanted to share, to get the word out about the devistation in New Orleans.
I havnt been watching the news much, so I had no idea about all that was happening down there, but heres what happened to me this weekend.
Im a pilot for a couple different companies, and I had the oppertunity to fly a cooperate jet down there on a mission to pick up stranded doctors, nurses and a couple patients. Since we were flying down there empty, I loaded the airplane with 30 cases of water and other canned food and supplies. (which was used the second I got there)
The New Orleans airport resembles a war zone... there are dozens of helicopters taking off and landing... let alone the hundreds of helicopters parked everywhere. All sorts of military cargo airplanes scatered everywhere as well.

This is a picture flying into the airport

Here are pictures of the massive military presence at the airport

Heres a picture of the happy hospital staff reunited with there familys

The head passenger, a doctor at Tulane Hospital in New Orleans sat in the jump seat on the way to dallas and told us some horrifying stories. He told us there is 4-6 foot of water in the city... stagnant, with human fecies, chemicals and oil floating in it. He would make his rounds to different hospitals in a canoe and people just wadding in the water were chasing after him trying to attack him he said... He was transporting patients to a makeshift helipad downtown with a military escort on modified fan boats and random people would be shooting at them. He said eventually the soldiers would start firing back and the doctor witnessed two crazed snipers get hit. What kind of people do these things... I cannot belive how bad it is down there. Im heading back for another simular mission tomarrow.. Ill let you all know what else I see/hear

Thanks for sharing that, and bringing supplies.

We are going to be hearing these sort of stories for quite a long time I fear.

Thanks for all your kind comments. Today I flew into Baton Rouge (sp?). I did a charity mission flying in Rod Parsley... hes head of a huge church in Columbus, OH and on TV alot. He needed some pilots to fly his airplane so he could set up camps down there to help people... Hes a real nice guy, and since his pilots are in school I volunteered, along with my boss to fly their airplane down there.
But, while I was down there I had some interesting visitors... you probably recognize the two individuals.

This picture is of the airplane I flew, and John Travoltas Boeing 707... parked next to us... way cool.

This picture shows him and his wife getting off the airplane

JT is unloading LOTS of food for the cause... he unloaded it all himself with his other pilots (hes a pilot himself... he is certified in all the aircraft he owns) We tried to help them unload but his "security" and camera crew wouldnt let us....

Heres a pic of my boss (the other pilot on our airplane) with JT... I have a pic with John as well, its just on a different camera and I couldnt get download it yet

And heres a picture of the other airplane that landed that day... couldnt get a picture with him (hes got some serious security... hahaha)

All in all it was a great day.... Deffinatly alot more fun than saturday at New Orleans. And btw... I found out that the doctor I flew was the head doctor at Tulane in Ovarian (sp?) research... My company, Trident Aviation, was mentioned on the news (CNN) for "rescueing" them... that was cool.

Thanks for sharing this. It's good to see some actual first hand accounts from someone who is helping out. Crazy, about those snipers. What the hell is wrong with them?!
Keep up the good work and stay safe!
