Default I have a concern...

I have a concern here, I would like to get some of your opinions.

As you know, most events and meets are planned on this site. I have noticed lately several cops have been posting on the site in different forums. Here is the latest one:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=59296

This is an old thread that has been resurrected, but a cop has come on and threatened that:

Just read the "Street Encounters Forum" people are posting about illegal street racing activities. They are lucky that it is not being done on my beat as I would do all in my power to stop their activities and impound the vehicles.
Of course, none of us street race, but are our "spirited runs" much different? Anyway, am I being too paranoid to be worried about cops lurking in this site to gather info and perhaps be waiting for us during a run? I mean, after all they could easily read about the place, date, time and number of cars.

I would hate to not be able to plan events here anymore, or to post about what happened during the meet afterwards. Please put my fears to rest, or do you think that maybe this will clue us all in to avoid future problems.

Yes! you are being Paranoid, IMO.

I personally think the police that are doing the traffic stuff are not surfing car forums on the net. Not that sophisticated.

Most don't even know what a S2000 is.

All of my spirited drives are out in BFE, I find it very unlikely they are browsing the S2KI forums out there.

Now for the street racing crowd, they may. I got that crap out of my system in the early 80's. The Aspen Hill shopping center was Hot Rod heaven on a weekend evening.

Dan,

I wouldn't classify your concerns as paranoid, per se. But I do agree with gfactor that the likelihood of cops lurking in the forums to set up sting operations for group meets seems highly unlikely. Could they do it if they wanted to? Sure...but I think you (and I, in the past...as I too shared your concern when I began putting together meets) are looking at the S2000 and our meets from a slightly myopic POV. Take in total all the various makes of sports cars that are out there...add to that the Nissan Sentras (i.e. non-sporties, but tricked out for Friday evening fun, etc.)...now multiply that by any [large] number of enthusiasts' websites catering to each vehicle makes' car club culture...splash in a dash of upteen thousands of individual threads to wade through in order to find out that there is a car meet on Saturday, March "X", at 2pm beginning at "X" and travelling through "Y" and...yada...yada...yada... I gotta believe the cops are not out there deliberately interested in the meet that you or I might put together.

Again...sure...its *possible* that one might come across such a thread. But so highly unlikely as I don't believe it should cause an organizer anxiety. Knowwhuddamean? Now...with that said, there is no reason to cause undue attention to a post with any (making up phrases here) comments say, like, "Maaaan, we're gonna tear the livin' sh!t outta them thar backroads!!!" That just makes sense...and I know we're not typically making such comments, but still...

So again, I don't think there's enough need to worry. Others can certainly call me out on this, as it is all conjecture on my part. But in the end, we are a club that might bring 20 or so members together for a car meet on a Saturday, etc. Compare that to the vast number of automobiles, owners, websites,...and frankly just *everything* that a cop is already responsible for doing day-to-day, and I believe the cops are not trolling websites for meet information.

What do you think I have been doing all day?

Nice to get out for some fun.....I was getting the Winter blues.

Even got the bike out for and hour or so.

Cheers,

George

Yep, I went out and installed my AUS intake, and went for a quick drive.... top down of course!

Unlike all of you guys, there is just nowhere to drive down here. I have to drive a minimum of about 40 minutes just to get to an area that has back roads....
