Default I love cops

Am I the only one that has great luck when it comes to dealing with Fairfax County police? I recently got out of two really bad situations, because the officer decided to cut me some slack. Ive heard countless stories of VA cops being assholes and I'm just wondering why I have had such good experiences with them so far (knock on wood).

One night about one month ago or so, I was driving my cousins car (e46 m3 with ~15% tint) home at 1am (I'm under 18) with 4 passengers in the car. We ended up getting pulled over because of the tint. The officer was very nice and said all is good as long as I let my 18 year old cousin drive the rest of the way home, since I am not supposed to be out past 12 anyways, let alone driving a car that isn't mine, with 5 people in the car, and 15% tint, and a dealer tag issued to a dealership that no one in the car works for. The cop was great. He said he liked the m3, and had a z06 himself, but said he wasn't a fan of s2000's

Last week I got pulled doing ~60 in a 35 in the S. The officer was also very cool, didn't say anything about my dealer tag, he just asked why I had a Maryland tag. He said he had clocked me doing 58. All I said was "wow, i really thought the speed limit on this road was at least 40." Then he took my registration and ID to his car for about 2 minutes and came back and just let me go. I really don't think he actually clocked me doing 58 thought, because there was a SUV right next to me that might have caused an error in his reading or caused it to be inaccurate. I think he would have gave me the ticket if he honestly thought I was going 58 mph.

I have a few other stories, but I think that's enough for now.

Sorry if this is a stupid thread. I just wanted to say, don't bad mouth cops in general. Yes, there are some assholes, but there are much more cool ones out there then you might think. Hopefully next time you come in contact with one, it will be one of the cool ones.

Oh and, don't put yourself in stupid situations like I have in the past When I now think back to the time when I was driving my cousins m3, I really can't remember what the **** I was thinking.

Thanks for not posting a thread about how cops are stupid. Thanks for giving them props and everyone remember - Those officers on the road are the ones that keep all of us safe!

Glad to hear you've had good experiences with cops. I have had no luck recently, especially with VA police officers and I think it only takes one or two bad experiences to make you sour on police officers.

I got pulled doing a similar speeding violation as you, 62 in a 35, cop wouldn't even cut me the break to lower it down to a speeding violation, gave me the full wreckless ticket. I'm not saying he's in the wrong, I was. But he could have been nicer

I've had other crappy experiences too, like getting pulled for an illegal U-turn when the sign was clearly blocked by trees. Cop admitted the sign was hard to see, but still wrote the ticket, and at court all he said was he observed me making an illegal u-turn. -- He was extremely polite though!

I've had good experiences with Maryland police officers though -- Maybe its cuz you have Maryland tags.

About a month or two ago I was let off with a VERY minor ticket (failure to obey traffic sign) even though was very obviously caught doing much more. They seem to have calmed down A LOT.

The ones who find that suspicious.....thinking a vehicle like that has drug runners or gangsters inside. Especially with 5 people in the car on a D tag. If I were a cop, I'd have pulled him over too. He probably let him off because he was expecting something different, but the OP actually pulled over and didn't have any suspicious substances or hardware in the car - the officer was relieved he could peacefully go home another night.

Yeah I thinking "here we go gain" when I saw this thread I'm relieved that it's not another "it's the cops fault" I got pulled over thread.

I'm sure we've all had good and bad experiences (I had one such bad experience on foot this weekend with an officer actually taunting me in Baltimore because he thought I was drunk and would turn around and mouth off to him. I hadn't ever been in a situation where an officer was baiting me like that so it irked me but I just walked away), but even when I have the bad ones I have to keep in mind that there are police officers that are good at their job and in that career with the best intentions as well as those who are bad at it and are doing so for the wrong reasons.

Can't judge any group as a whole for the occasional bad apples

So... why did you have dealership tags when none of you worked for them?
