Idea for a Project
So, I have a project I want to start. I might bite the bullet and set up my own website for this, but for now, it's going to be an S2Ki project (hopefully).
What I would like to do is start cataloging all of the good/great driving roads in the Mid-A, with video to go along with it. That way people could see the stretch of road/route and see for themselves if it's a route they'd like to drive themselves.
For instance, I went out by myself on an "exploratory" drive this weekend. I found a route on a motorcycle website, then took the S out, set up my GoPro and recorded the whole thing. Well, almost the whole thing (ran out of juice for the last 20-30 minutes). The goal is to drive the route all the way through, with no removed footage, except for where pit stops occur. The video itself is pretty boring (unless you happen to have the same taste in music that I do). I drove pretty tame since I didn't know where I was going, I have summer tires, and I'm not that great of a driver anyway. I am going to take the video, break it out in logical chunks, then add a map to go along with it. People can then review the videos and see if the route is one they'd like to drive.
What do you think? Would anyone be interested in something like this? Maybe other users would contribute and eventually we'd have the Mid-A's best driving routes well-documented.

I like it
It would definitely require some user interaction for it to be national or even multi-state. I have done some work with the Google Maps API before, you will probably want to use that.
Do you host your video on Youtube?

But would you skim it? Or fast forward to the good parts?
I think the only way I'd watch the video (and I know this is pretty much impossible to do) would be to have some sort of slider I could drag along the route, to immediately get me to the part of the road I'm interested in seeing.
Most of the time I think a plain old google map would get the job done.
I like the idea of compiling fun routes though.

Very good idea. I'll definitely skim through the video to look for the more interesting parts. I know of a few good roads north of Baltimore that I can add...once I either fix the camera that fell off my car during Autocross or figure out how to mount my new smart phone.
And I have to wait until March 15 for the S to come out of storage...that was what I told my insurance anyway.
