Illegal Tint Ticket
Sorry for the lengthy post, but I need to vent.
On my way to work traveling on 66W I hoped in a chain of cars traveling between 75-80 mph for around 3 miles. I was the last car in a chain of about 5 or 6. I am very familiar with this stretch of the road, and always scan way ahead for cops on my daily commute. I see the cop (Va Trooper) traveling on 66E and he jumps on the median to pull a U-turn at the cut through just as the first car passes. The cop looked like he was trying to swing the U-turn to get the first car (G-35), but traffic was to full for him to merge in to the lane. The whole chain hits the breaks. I saw it coming and slowed down to a moderate 63. After I passed the cop, the people in front of me continued on and had to have pushed it back to at least 75 the way they were pulling from me. I never sped back up after I passed the cop, I could see that he never really stopped when he pulled his U-turn. The cop continued to swing out and hopped on 66W. Next thing Whoop, whoop......and the dreaded blue lights.
I pull over immediately put my windows down and put my hands on the steering wheel. Cop comes up and says that he pulled me over for my illegal tint, took my license and registration and said he was going to get the laser device to measure the tint. Comes back and it reads 35, 32, 40, 38. So he acts like he

i was with my bro in his integra when he got pulled over for a front tag. his tint is illegal and they didnt' get him for that just the tag. he asked to search the car too. my brother agreed. the cop didn't find anything and after he found nothing and felt like an ass he got "nicer" and shook both our hands thanking us for our time. WTF?
Just because you're asked if you have any weapons and the like doesn't mean he suspects you of anything. It's just a question. If you say yes and allow him to search your vehicle then it's your time he's using up too. I mean afterall, he is still getting paid nonetheless. So if you think it's going to make him feel like a jackass to search your car even though you dont have anything in the car, think again. It feels real good when u trash other people's rides. Especially when they gave you permission to do so.
i thought sooner or later Peter would chime in
i would imagine getting asked the search question is probably just standard operating procedure, similar to how you get asked if you want to open up a store credit card and save 10% on your purchases for that day everytime you buy something these days. i think you did the right thing in answering/behaving politely when you declined him. how much is a tint ticket btw?

I had a 95 civic 2 dr with 10% in the back window and 0% on the back sides....never had a problem with it. I've since then bought an 03 civic and had legal tint....never had a problem.....but I do want to tint my s2000...and legally cant make it too dark....so not sure if I'll jut go illegal or do what i can legally.....

See the problem is you never really know what may have happened before hand. There could have been a call for a vehicle matching your description. Could have been that because of the condition of the car that specific officer may of had a "hunch". I'm not saying it's right, but it definitely happens and we don't always know the reasons behind it. I saw this weekend for the first time a guy getting his car "sniffed" by the K-9 unit for reason of suspicion. You never really know what it could be that spurred the officers interest. And like Peter said, that cop would not have felt dumb after searching your car to find nothing. Most traffic stops are an opportunity to get in a car. Your lucky you didn't get a speeding or reckless ticket...rather just a minor violation.

You know I can't resist... there's just something about these t hreads that keep me inspired.
... once you get you S, you won't have as much problems...
