Jamie has stayed in three different places there. I hear to be "cost effective" (read: cheap).. Paris is nice and in the middle of it all, but on the cheaper side of things. If you go alone, you can avoid paying for one airfare

I went there for a business trip last year. I stayed at The Cannery in North LV, close to downtown (via an interstate, sort of like 95, or the JFX would be up here). That was cheaper than near the Strip. And the strip is soooo clogged w/ traffic. I only went there a few hrs before my plane left.

Most of the time (when I wasn't working), I drove all over, put 800 miles on the rental car the 3 days I was there. I drove up 93 (I think that's the name of the hwy), passing the Western edge of area 51 and on into Death Valley. I found out later there were a few ghost towns in D.V. wish I found out sooner, I would have liked to explore them.

Went through Badwater Basin, the lowest elevation in the US (214ft below sea level).

Also went to Hoover Dam, pretty cool. You can rent mountain bikes and boats around there as well as taking a helecopter ride of the area. There's a place about 10 min North of the LV Motor Speedway (the oval), which is in the NW part of the city, actually in the burbs where people can just bring mountain bikes or dort bikes and go off roading. Sort of an unoffical off road park(pic in photo album). It's on the same highway (forget RT #) on the same side as the speedway. If I had known about it before hand, I would have found a place to rent something fun. But it was my first time out there.

I rented a Chrysler convertable (client wouldn't pay for an S, which you CAN rent out there. Some exotic car rental company has one, don't know the name of it though).

Someone in the Racing & Competition forum posted a video of an awesome road course in Parrump (sp?) Nevada, about 30mi from LV. I wish I had know about that place when I was out there. Maybe tehy have a car you can rent for track use.

I would have loved to spend more time out there and drive around some more, but I had the day before the job (actually the afternoon before) and the day after to explore. Hopefully my client will send me out there again this year and I might be able to take a vacation at that time.

Pics of my Vegas trip are in my photo album here - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=m...bum&album=12797

Let us know how your trip went.

brerspidur - What exactly are you looking to do? Here is my two cents from a local. I would stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. Its close, but off the strip with easy access to the airport. It is also the most fun hotel in Vegas for partying. You literally don't have to leave the hotel. It has hands down the best pool in Vegas and the only way you are going to get in is with the wrist bands that they give you when you check in. They also have a really good club called Body English. The rooms are nice, the staff is good, the restaraunts are even better. If you wanted to go to the strip its only a $5 cab ride.

Car Related = The Las Vegas Motor Speedway has something going almost every weekend (usually drag racing) that you could check out. Pahrump does have a race track where they run racing schools every weekday and usually some other event on the weekends. The track is called Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. I would check www.lvms.com and www.springmountainmotorsports.com for schedules.

If you want to rent a cool car there is a Rent-A-Vette place on the way from the airport to the Hard Rock. They have everything from Hot Rods to Ferraris, 350Zs, Vipers, Vettes, Lambos, whatever you want.

Gambling is the same everywhere you go, Sapphire is one of the few strip clubs I have been to.

Did I miss anything?

There is always something going on in Vegas. Will you be there on a wekend or during the week? Business or pleasure? If it's business just write off your entertainment.

There are plenty of things to see here and that doesn't cost alot of money (unless it involves cleavage).

Avoid cabs if you can help it, they're pretty pricey here.

you can stay at one of the older hotels/casinos downtow for cheap. i believe 39 a night?

or. the best bet is to sign up for some sort of timeshare visit. 3 days 2 nights for 100 plus they give you some free stuff (ie. food coupons and shows)

if you like to drink battistas's hole int the wall is across the street from bally's its on flamingo and audrie. its my favorite restaurant . great italian food and all the house wine you can drink. if you do go there ask for mike long he is the head waiter and tell him mike lynch sent you. he will take care of you. for entertainment there are a lot of free shows that you can see on the strip bellagio water show treasure island show. for cheap entainment the mandalay bay has a cool shark reef tour for like 10 bucks. you have to go to battista's . my b-day is june 17th. hope that helped

thanks for all the quick responses. to answer a couple of questions, ill be there probably june 13-17, for pleasure. boyracers2k, we arent big drinkers but i think we are going to definatly hit up batistas, it sounds pretty good from what you said, too bad we are leaving on your birthday. at first we had definatly wanted to stay on the strip, just becuase we like to wander around drunkenly at all hours of the night but the hard rock does sound pretty intriguing. is there any way to get into that club "body english" if we dont stay there, or do you need the wristband for that as well? any other clubs that anyone can reccommend? the +1 said that she wants to go to studio 54. and finally, mbonanni, you mentioned sapphire, how was that?

Tony, the club is open to all who pay the cover($20-$30?) I remember when it was BeBe's... underground and hoppin'. Maybe I'm going back too many years. And if I remember correctly, there used to be a webcam of the pool at the HRH. You can check it out anytime.

I actually went out to the Shelby place at the LV Speedway. That was cool, but probably not something the two of you would want to do. Since I had lived 300 miles from Vegas for 13 yrs, both work and pleasure took me to Sin City more than once. I miss the desert.

i was just there last month. i can second the rec. for the HRH - great place (and the most attentive drink waitresses i encountered). the new monorail system is also pretty nice and easy to use, but doesn't run 24/7 unfortunately. i agree that you could stay in one place the whole time and still do a lot, but IMO to enjoy it you have to see as much as possible.
