Looking at a DD in Stafford, VA...
from Del Val!EDIT: Looking at an '02 Honda Civic Si in Stafford, VA....added a link on pg.2. Anyone near that area?
I'm looking at getting a DD, and I'm kicking around a few ideas. I was wondering if anyone in the Fairfax, VA, area can help me out. I know this isn't a Honda, but if anyone is familiar with Subie's I'm interested in this Bugeye:
'02 Bugeye
I'm still researching a few different cars, and so far I know that WRX tranny's are weak, and don't do well when power mod's are added. If anyone in the area familiar with Subie's can help a fellow S owner out, please let me know
Also I'm open to any other DD suggestions...I have a few in mind: '02 ep3, '02 RSX-S, EG/EK hatch(impossible to find one untouched), '99-'01 Civic Si, or the last gen Integra GSR. I'm trying to find something untouched, or at the least tastefully modded.
I'm in the middle of Fairfax and will help if I can. I don't know too much about Subaru's, but I have many friends in New England who are linked to the Subaru rally racing team so I can always call them if I need info.
subies are supposed to be reliable and trouble free, and respond extremely well to relatively simple mods. i have a friend with an 04 WRX without any complaints. i hear if you're buying a WRX or STi, the 04 model year was the best and is still the most coveted. apparently the 04/05 model was a huge improvement over the bugeye. also, although the WRX trannies are supposed to be weak, you should be able to transplant most parts from STis without any problems, and apparently it's not that uncommon to find STi trannies in WRXs. insurance is apparently higher than the S2000 according to that 10 most expensive cars to insure thing on MSN.
05 wrx wagon here. Expect poor gas mileage if you have a lead foot. The turbo can suck down some gas. Maybe ~20-22mpg with city/hwy driving.
It's a decent car, but from what I understand the tranny problems come from people jamming it into 2nd trying to drag or race, and that set of synchros and such associated with 2nd gear basically get toasted. The transmission is sloppy compared to the S, the thing really could benefit from some suspension stiffening/anti-roll/upgraded sway bars and a slight lowering, perhaps.
For a daily driver, it's a decent car. If you want to track it or improve the performance, I'd probably start with tires and suspension before you add power (which is relatively easy to do). CAI is useless and a bad idea unless you're running over 300hp (if I remember correctly). Exhaust, Cobb Accessport, etc are decent mods.
Definitely toss the stock tires (if they're still on). Get a set of cheap wheels with some Revo1 snows for the ultimate winter (and mud) mobility.

From the pics it looks like it's in great condition...what do you guys think of their asking price of $12k? I'm not sure how much lower I could go with that.

Would you or your friend with the WRX be able to check it out?

the blue wagon. Have you done anything to yours?
Been to that used car dealership. The price may seem goo but the car will be a piece. They tried to sell me an '00 with soundsystem, 90k miles, like 20 dents, every rim curbed, and rips in the upholstry for $14.9k in January!!
