Default MacGyver is coming to MD...

Hide your daughters and sheep, the Big Mac is moving to Maryland I recently accepted a position in Odenton (between D.C. and Baltimore), and I expect to be there the first week of November.

I'm looking for a nice 2 bedroom apartment, reasonably close to work (say, no more than 15-20 miles, the closer the better as they'll be relocating next year to Hanover closer to Baltimore), in the $1,500-$1,600/month range. Suggestions as soon as possible greatly appreciated.

Do you guys hold tech sessions where everyone gets together to work on their cars? What about weekly/monthly meets at restaurants just to hang around with good company?

Hey Mac,

Great to hear you are going to be in the neighborhood! We do have regular meets and tech days, make sure to check the top of the MID-A forums, we have a drive to Luray on the 21st of October and a weekend in the hills of MD on the 27th to the 29th.

Im sure some of the MD can help you on the apartment.

Glad to hear you're coming up! I'm not too familiar with that area, but I'm sure some others will chime in. This is a nice area of the country - I hope you like it!

Welcome to Mid-A!

Odenton is out of my area but you would think not have a problem finding a place in that price range (unless all of the jobs moving to Fort Meade have driven prices way up).

Mid-A is fairly active but most of the meets are a ways away from Odenton but maybe you can help change that. The last two Septembers there have been Mod days about 15-20 minutes from your new location.

Welcome to MID A, Mac!!!!
Elkridge MD is a nice (was inexpensive community) near Hanover, Jessup, and Odenton.

Not ALL the meetings are far away from Odenton. We just had a tech day at my place in Ellicott City last month (25 cars).

Hey I included those.

By the way Dan, threads rarely stay on topic in Mid-A.
I know... damn Mid-A whores... Its like they have ADD or something...

Welcome to Mid-A...

Maybe we should set up an "introduction" dinner for you where you can meet a bunch of us.

Hope to see you around

30 minute drives for tech days were commonplace in southern Florida, we even did 45-60 minute drives in Boston (though I was never overly excited about such a long drive). Sounds like a good time to be had up there...

Although the job is in Odenton, it didn't seem like where I would want to live. I came across a nice place or two in Bowie, though I'm continuing to look. Makes me wish I was in the area for a week or so to drive around and see the places in person. I suppose I could make a quick flight up there again, but man, what a time drag, not to mention how tired I get from all of the flying lately. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, here's a link to the place I'm currently living: Via Tuscany. I pay a tad over $1,100/month for a gated community. I know the New England-style area, so I don't imagine I'll be getting anything so plush at reasonable rates (but I can hope ), but I think the $1,500-$1,600 range is reasonable enough.

My girlfriend (a relationship I will, unfortunately not be continuing after the move) is from MD, and her brother lives in Odenton, oddly enough, so hopefully she'll be able to help me out on the good/not-so-good areas of town.

Guess we won't be seeing much of you down "south." It's 35-40 minutes for me to get to work and that's not even halfway to you! Get ready for T-R-A-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-I-C!!!
