Well I'm in the middle of repairing a laptop for a friend. Long story short I have a sinking feeling that their hard drive has crapped out on them. This drive is actually identical to 4 others I pulled from other notebooks so I know it is a reoccurring problem with this manufacturer.

Anyways, I was curious if someone has a spare 2.5" ATA notebook drive lying around that I can test with before I go and spend money on a new one only to find out that it is not the hard drive. Also looking to see if someone has a 2.5" --> 3.5" Hard drive adapter so I can try and pull data from this old notebook drive onto my desktop for recovery.

I found the parts I need on new egg. Just hesitant to pull the trigger on them without being 100% sure (1) the hard drive is to blame & (2) the data is fully or somewhat recoverable. Plus I'm too lazy to wait for 5 days shipping.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a brand new 200GB spare one you can try, but I'm in NoVA

Haven't gotten a chance to install it in my laptop yet

I don't have a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter but I do have an external 2.5" -> USB2.0 that would serve a similar purpose.

I have several 2.5" drives and have several USB adapters so you can read the drive. I'm in Damascus or Frederick- depending on the time of day.
