Default iDA-X305s Hard Drive?

I've had my Alpine iDA-X305s installed for over a month and finally picked up a 750gb Western Digital Portable Hard Drive. On my first attempt to hook it up I put a mixture of WMA's and MP3's on the drive and plugged it in. Sadly the message "No USB Device Found" was displayed. Next I tried formatting the Hard Drive (NCIP format I think?) put nothing but MP3's on the Drive and tried again, same message. Does anybody have any clue on how to get this going? javascript:emoticon('')

I believe that the USB that is provided will not provide enough power to spin a portable hard drive and requires additional power to do so... Its meant for a flashdrive... i have a 32gb flash drive filled with music that works fine.

^ This. You need to power the drive separately.

I was kinda worried about that. I guess I'm gonna have to get a different hard drive. Luckily I work at Best Buy so I get a pretty good discount! Thanks for the help!

yea usb can only power about 500ma. I had a 120gb 7200 ide hard drive on my ida-x100 for a day. I had it powered by the car, etc.

It was rediculously SLOW. Especially with high folder counts. I just use an ipod now because it is the fastest and has the best search/ interface.

maybe ill try a sata hard drive sometime soon and see if that helps.

word of advice... use an ipod if possible, much easier to install (usb. done) and way better overall.
