Yup - I got my BS in Mechanical Engineering at UVA in 1997...and went on for a Ph.D. (bypassing Masters) here as well. Its been 7 years, but close to 2 of those were not really spent working on my degree. Perhaps I wasn't as motivated as I should have been...but grad student life really wasn't that bad for me, kindof fun actually. Fortunately, I have much more than just a degree to show for it. I've managed to publish several papers in my field, and the experience has been very worthwhile.

Jeremy - I take it from your login that you are also a Wahoo. Year? Major?
Good job brutha! I understand what you're saying about publishing...its a nice accomplishment.
I just got my 2nd peer-reviewed paper published (search www.pubmed.com, breast cancer AND becker) and I've got a couple more in non peer-reviewed....always a great feeling. So, do you plan to stay in academics?
LET'S GO ON A DRIVE!!!!!
