Default Mid-A folks - remember me?

Yesterday, September 29, 2004, I successfully defended my Ph.D. dissertation. Its been a long and difficult process, but I am now, for all practical purposes, Dr. Rudd. I should clarify that its not like a medical doctor - my Ph.D. is in Mechanical Engineering. Anyway, its a good feeling, and maybe I can put some time into planning a Charlottesville meet again.

Congrats. Did you get it from University of Virginia? I saw the Charlottesville location, so that's why I guessed.

Yup - I got my BS in Mechanical Engineering at UVA in 1997...and went on for a Ph.D. (bypassing Masters) here as well. Its been 7 years, but close to 2 of those were not really spent working on my degree. Perhaps I wasn't as motivated as I should have been...but grad student life really wasn't that bad for me, kindof fun actually. Fortunately, I have much more than just a degree to show for it. I've managed to publish several papers in my field, and the experience has been very worthwhile.

Jeremy - I take it from your login that you are also a Wahoo. Year? Major?

Yeah, I graduated from the Comm School in 2000. I had a double concentration in Marketing and Management. I love the school, but I haven't been back in the past year or two now that all of my friends have graduated and moved on.

I'm suspecting that whole "mechanical engineering" thang ain't gonna stop you from introducing yourself as "Dr. Rudd" in social (aka bar) circumstances .

Seriously Rodney!...Huge congratulations to you! You have definitely put in some long, hard hours on this...and you deserve your accolades.

I'm up for a Charlottesville / Tavern meet all over again :snaps:...you just say the word!

Way to go!

As Deb stated, we also were thinking of you on Tuesday. Janet had to go to C'ville again.
