I did it with 4.44's @ 60mph on I81 coming back from the Dragon. (The year the VA cops were harassing the shit out of us..) Not since 4.77's though.

I have been getting 300+ also the last few tanks. I used to only get about 280. The only change I did was to short-shift to 6th while cruising on the highway. Anything below 70 mph I downshift to 5 and anything at 70 or plus I upshift to 6. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made.

Am I the only person that fuels up based on mileage driven and not some arbitrary gauge?

I use the gauge. The mileage will vary based on how you drive and how many spirited runs you had with that tank, how many times you were stuck in traffic etc. , that is too much to remember for me.
