misfires!
Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to share a problem i've been having with my S. When i'm under heavy acceleration my car starts to miss really bad. It starts at about 5,000 rpms and continues through vtec. I've changed the map sensor and reset the computer and it didn't work. Normal driving is fine, the car starts and runs fine. Checked my plugs and they look fine, (changed them about 9,000 miles ago) i torqued them down properly aswell. Could it be a coil pack? Any input would be great.
thanks in advance for any help.
Bobby.

no cel??? i hate stuff like this. it can be the coil packs, but those are just way too expensive to just change. this is a far shot, but maybe a bad tank of gas. is there any smoke coming outta the back?

Gotta love the 00,01 ecu's
best way to start troubleshooting is to scan for dtc's. even though the MIL is not illuminated, the computer can still store a dtc. if you have access to a diagnostic tool, i would advise you to start there.
if you suspect a coil pack is failing, you can try starting the engine and pulling the plug from each coil one at a time. if the engine starts to misfire each time you disconnect a coil, you know that one particular coil is still in working order.
this "backyard test" is not the correct way to troubleshoot, but it works if you dont have access to dmm's to test various electrical parts or a diagnostic tool to read data lists. it can also be used to test fuel injectors.
a few months ago, my integra GS-R started to misfire at 5500rpm and vtec wouldnt engage. the MIL was not illuminated, but there was still a dtc stored for a Knock Sensor.
