Default Moving to the DC area

Hey all, wanted to send a quick note and introduce myself. I currently live in Hawaii, but will be moving to the DC area this summer. I am trying to decide if I am going to bring the S with me, or let it go down here. How many of you guys use your S as a daily driver up there? Of those that do, how does it work out for you. What is the theft like up there? Thanks.

If I am not mistaken, there aren't too many Mid-Atlantic members actually *in* DC.

You'll find a good mix that DD their S2000's, though. Just have an appropriate set of tires for the conditions.

Theft of the car itself is fairly rare but there is a fair amount of stolen seats / radios / wheels.. etc. When you are looking at specific neighborhoods, let us know. Any idea where you'll be looking?

I DD my S. Not usually an issue (except this year with the monster snowfall we've had).

Theft can vary wildly depending on what city you go to, where are you going to be?

I actually live in DC. I have had no issues daily driving my S at all. The streets are a little rough on occasion but no issues otherwise. BTW no alarm and no steering wheel bar.

Be careful in PG County. Dirty cops up there. Had my seats stolen the day after I bought my S. Cop the next morning told me that there were a ton of parts stolen off cars that night, carbon fiber trunks, hoods, entire engines?! He said he had told the Chief repeatedly in the past that this particular group was not doing their rounds at night so basically guys were running wild. Not just off s2ks either. STIs and Evos too. They try to steal my radio and steal my car. I actually laughed at them not being able to steal the s2k radio, too easy, but they f^&*d my dash up with their damn screwdriver.

At any rate, stay away from College Park, Takoma Park, Hyattsville, Beltsville, that general area, unless you have a good alarm, park your car close to your place, and a gun. Not sure about VA, but generally, low income districts, with lots of ricers, and poor lighting, is not a safe place for the s2k.

I'm not advocating violence, but at the same time, I really don't have much sympathy for the f***kers that do this.

Oh another note, I DD my s2k into downtown everyday. Not too bad honestly, you just have to learn the roads, there are a few nasty potholes that have sprung up on mass that I'm pretty sure would eat an s2k up. You'll learn the roads and be good.

Welcome to DC!

Thanks for the welcome guys. As of right now I am not totally sure what area I will be working in. I am in the Air Force and my assignment RIP states Bethesda, but I am pretty sure that is just a personnel location and that I will most likely be working in the NOVA area. With that in mind, I will probably be looking at places to live anywhere from Reston to Alexandria. I am hoping that I will be able to get to and from work via the metro, but we shall see. All I know is that I need a place with a decent sized garage to house the S and my two motorcycles...

Bethesda is very pricey for homes with Garages. HI is pricey too though.

Yea, I know it's not going to be cheap up there. I don't really plan on living in the Bethesda area, that is just where the assignment is listed as being. Most likely I will be working either out near McLean, in DC proper at the Navy Yard, or down closer to Belvoir. Either way, I will probably be looking somewhere in Arlington or Alexandria county for a place to live. Unless of course I know for a fact it will be Belvoir, then I might start looking around Lorton or Woodbridge area. I just think I would be happier living a bit closer to the city.

And like I said, I know it's going to be pricey up there. Right now the gov gives me pretty good money for a house here in Hawaii, but my orders still have me as being married, and the divorce should be finalized by the time I move. With that in mind, I will probably be looking at something around $1800 once I get up there.
