columbia is a great area. there's alot of $$$ around there since it's a hop skip and jump from DC. i think there is plenty to do around there. i have never partied down there but i know people who lived in the area and did. the one place that sticks out is La Palapa's. I hear historic Ellicott city has some cool hangouts too.

Columbia is nice. Close to lots of stuff.

And yeah, La Palapa's in Ellicott City is really good.

Didnot say if you were buying or renting, but if you are buying, check out home prices here www.homesdatabase.com

Best advice I can give any one is to get out and about in the neighborhood when the neighbors are actually home to see what kind of area it is. If your on the southy side of the city, you might give Anne Arundel Co. a look as well as Howard Co.

I did this exact move in 2005 when I came back from Del Val (Levittown) to Maryland.

Btw, I have had several friends who live in Columbia, it's not a bad place but from what they tell me you can get better for the price you pay to live around there. I'd suggest Annapolis as well. It's not a bad area.

I'm off Selford road so I don't actually drive by the campus. I graduated from there in '97.

I closed on my house and moved into this area last year. Tons of research went into my decision. I've been very happy with the area for the budget I had to work with.
