Moving Out
Well - just received a call from a good friend stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, turns out he is going to re-enlist for another 4 years however they are stationing him here in Virginia Beach!
So, we are talking about either renting an apartment or a house - leaning towards a house for garage purposes.
My question is - what all is involved in moving out?
I know the obvious :
Need to find a place - then contact the owner regarding a lease/rent plan.
If everything is agreed upon we need to have bills transfered over (water, electric, cable, phone, etc etc) to us.
Furniture & house amenities.
What else am I missing?

Hey Chad, glad to see your still around.
Miss chatting with you....You got most of it. Along with deposits for most everything including rental property. Get on the payment plan for the power/gas as quick as you can. Same price every month, no spikes, easy to plan budgeting etc.
Don't forget renter's insurance. YOU NEED IT.
If you rent a house, inquire as to whether or not a "rent-to-own" clause would allow you to build a small amount of equity should you decide to outright purchase the property later on.
I had this once. I didn't end up buying the single-wide, but it somewhat gave me a sense of ownership which in turn led to me fixin' the place up a little bit. Good for the lessor and the leasee.

Oops, almost forgot. The lessor will require employment verification. Find out if a military transfer entitles you to break the lease without penalty. With two names on the lease, they may not make a provision for this, unless of course, you two marry.
