Need info/advice on DC Area
Hello fellow S2kers,
I'm currently living in Arizona, and I'm from North Carolina. The company I'm working for just offered me a job in the DC area with relo and a salary bump to accommodate the higher cost of living. I've really been wanting to get back to the east coast and I'm thinking this is the perfect chance.
The job itself is in the crystal city area, and I'd like some recommendations of areas to look for rental properties. A garage for my baby is a must (plus I have alot of other car stuff that has to go too). Please help me out, Thanks a ton in advance!!

Hey man. It is a really fun area, but you will PAY to have a private garage and be near Crystal City/D.C. If you cant pay, or afford it, you can live in Manassas, Sterling, or Woodbridge, but then your commute will SUCK. Best idea is to get a roommate or prepare to leave by 5 am every day.
The Falls Church/ Arlington area isn't that bad ( given price/location). The commute may sucks but not as bad from the places stated above. I recommend calling some local realtors.. they will most likely be the best to help you find what you need.
Tho, I am sure I can speak on behalf on the DC metro s2ki... that we all look forward to seeing you at a few meets when you move back to the east coast. Cheers.

I live in Ballston and although the rent is expensive, renting a parking spot is relatively inexpensinve, $100-150/mo depending on the building. Just feeding meters on weekends is around 80/mo so it's worth it IMO.

My bf lived in Crystal City before moving in with me. He lived in Crystal Towers with a garage space. A very nice pool area. There are lots of apartments in CC. You could walk to work. It looks like the rent for a one-bedroom is about $1900/mo. Probably a shock to you coming from AZ, but that is why salaries are higher here. You definitely want to be as close to your place of work as possible to avoid lots of aggravation and extra time/cost spent commuting. It is worth the extra money if you can afford it. Good luck!

I have a very nice 1BR condo available to rent in Alexandria. Just a few miles south of Crystal City and is directly across from a Metro station. There is a gated garage, but not that kind you can work on your car in. It's a large condo building.
