Need your help; considering supercharging; local input and possible drive requested
Hey everyone... I'm at a point where I am seriously considering SC'ing my car... I have done plenty of research on the Comptech vs. Vortech... and I have ruled out a turbo... Bottom line is this: I'd like to have add'l power but not with the added nightmare of constant engine, fuel tweaking, peripheral components failing, etc... and I'd compromise a bit on power for more security and less potential for failure.
Can you guys share with me your experiences on this topic ? I would love the opportunity to sit in a SC'd car around here, and feel the difference.
Your help is appreciated and happy motoring...

Now that's what I'M talking about, Rick!

I agree with you about the Turbo and decided on the S/C after examining all the facts...it's my daily driver and I just wanted a lil extra kick to add to an already exciting sports car.

I should have my car back sometime this week so you'll be able to get a ride shortly. WOOOHHH!!

There are a few in MD who have a blower and a bunch of peeps who have either Comptech or Vortech down in the Commonwealth.
If you decide to go Vortech, make sure you call the Evolution guys. They've done so many that it's second nature to them now. Good luck and I'll keep you posted.

You guys are great...
Andy - I didn't know that your baby was SC'd !! I would love the opportunity to meet up with you (and finally meet in person as well) to sit shotgun to see how your S2000 drives and purrs...
Terry - Admittedly, I know there is nothing like a turbo giving a swift kick in the ass when it spools up... I can remember my first shotgun ride with a family friend years ago in the old RX7 Turbo II (old body style) - I was probably 12 years old. But after reading what amounted to hundreds of posts covering experiences with SC and turbos, I am taking what I think is the path of least resistance, even at the loss of potential add'l hp gains... But let me reserve the right to take you up for a ride if I am in your neck of the woods !

Hi Rick
II run a vortech....it's painless no hassles only thing you need to check is your belt occasionally and hondas stay tight...if you install it yourself just be sure you do a neat job and have all your vacumn hoses etc secured and clamped well. if you do either one...change your clutch at the same time...the improvement in the car is remarkable...the secret is a quality install. If you're ever in sw fla let me know you can drive mine. I looked a t turbo as well they generate more power, but they don't seem to be as user friendly and I believe they are pushng the envelope a bit more as regards to the engine specs without a reduction in compression.

fltsfshr - good advice... I was leaning towards Comptech due to the number of successful installs out there vs failures (mainly due to their time in the market vs. Vortech). But not to say I haven't heard great things about the Vortech as well. Price to me is a wash b/w the two... In fact, I will be in Jacksonville area over then next 6 - 8 weeks and hopefully that is in your area. I will surely let you know...
many thanks and regards,

Wow I'm all the way down on the southern tip... thats a long way from Jacksonville.
I took the vortech but I waited a bit till they had it hashed out a bit more. The big deciding factor was a bit more boost and an intercooler but I understand comptech has an intercooler available or coming soon. And if you get either and they offer a satin of polished ...get the polisher it looks great.
One of the things I did do was send my check valve back to Vortech and had them replace the blow off spring with a softer bypass spring. I think it's easier on the bearings but that's an arguable point.

fltsfshr - okay - I need to revisit my US geography lesson from 5th grade... maybe I won't be in your neck of the woods... In your comment about the blow off spring, are you are referring to the bearings within the SC itself ? Sorry for my ignorance...
