Default New tires

I'm getting a new set of tires and need help. I have seen a few different people saying good and bad things about tires but I'd like to hear from locals.

Daily driver (yes that means in the winter too)
price doesnt matter much (under $200 each would be nice)
I do NOT want winter tires
I do like the s02s just fine but have never had new tires on the car.

Right now I have "extremos" (yes its ok to laugh) on the back and s02s on front.

I do not care about ride comfort
I do care a lot about handling and gripping on dry roads

any ideas?

Going by tirerack.com it looks like

Goodyear
Eagle F1 GS-D3

and

Bridgestone
Potenza S-03 Pole Position

are the two best choices

Isnt s-03 what the ap2s have on them stock?

I do NOT care if they say summer tires....I grew up in Vermont and know how to drive in snow and on ice.
i grew up in chicago, so snow/ice does not bother me either.

of course, we always put on snow tires, studs back when they were legal, had chains in the trunk....

had s02's on my 1st s2k, rolled it when i hit ice back in dec 2003 and headed for te side of the road. yes, at speed passing a car helped the severity, but it probably still would have happened.

new s2k now has s03's and a set of blizzaks for the colder months.

point being, summer tires do not make great cold weather tires, and snow/ice on road makes them dangerous, IMHO.

agreed but only have enough $ for one nice set and weather here seems to be very mild so im going to lean towards high performance summer tires. If I had enough for a nice set for both seasons I would do so in a heart beat.

for safety's sake, i would recommend dedicated winter tires or all-seasons (if your budget doesn't allow for two sets of tires) ... it's not about your skill or familiarity with driving in snow or ice, it's that the rubber compound used in summer tires is no good in the cold, until they're warmed up. when it's 25 degrees out (as it sometimes gets around here in jan/feb) and road temps are below freezing, certain situations are going to be tricky for you, like going uphil, exit/on-ramps, etc. ask Aze85 about what happened to him last year (sorry to reference that Aze)

anyhow, i have blizzaks for winter use and i like em alot

i have bridgestone RE050s (which are the OEM tires on AP2s). i'm very happy with them, and i understand they're better than S02s are in the wet (for pure performance/handling, i *think* the general feeling is that they're not as good as the S02s are, but i also understand S02s are a bit iffy in the rain ... so a bit of a tradeoff).

^^^ No. They have RE050 on them stock. I've had great performance with my RE050's, so long as the temperature was above 50 degrees or I let them warm up a bit before pushing them at all.

Anyway, I've been researching to buy some new rears for my car, and I've heard good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and also about the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I'm going to likely get one of those two or another pair of RE050's soon.
